I am reading the Black Hawk Down book and it mentions four members of SEAL Team Six involved in the situation with the Delta Force and Rangers in Somalia. Why did the movie Black Hawk Down never portray the SEALs being there and also why were the SEALs even needed when Delta was there? If anybody has more information to add to this please post.

From what i can tell, they were there as a nod to "Inter-Service Cooperation". Really it was just a way for everyone to get to play. When there is a war/battle, everyone wants trigger time, especially the Elite troops. The Marines Force Recon types got there first then the Seals, then the Army stepped in . I'm not too sure about this fact but it seems to me that the Army's Delta is a bigger unit than Devgru/Seal6. Manpower and probably some wheelin and dealin from the Army Cheif of Staff got Delta the Job. If any one knows if that info is verifiable, please post it. hope this helps

Members of SEAL team 6 provided sniper cover for Delta and the Rangers.

I believe they were left out of the movie for the same reason that many characters were amalgamated into single ones. Simply too many people for uninformed viewers to grasp. They were relatively minor in the book, I believe the consensus was, so they were dropped from the screenplay.

Yeah, BHD just focused on one of the last missions. There were many operations there that I haven't seen covered anywhere else where the SEALs were supposedly more involved. Anyone know any information sites that cover the missions that led up to this one in particular?

That shattered knife was one of a couple things from the book that I wish had been in the movie. But I understand that they had to cater somewhat to the mass population. Hence the amalgamated "Hoot" character in the movie, as compared to the real Hoot from the book.

'Hoot' was the name of the character Eric Bana played in the movie. He was a mixture of Norm Hooten, John Macejunas, and probably a few other
1st SFOD-D operators.
