Israel: Hamas Leader Wounded in Air Strike
Saturday, April 17, 2004
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Israel blew up Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi's (search) car in Gaza City (search) on Saturday, Israeli security sources said. Palestinian rescue sources said two people were killed and one was badly injured.
Palestinian sources confirmed the car belonged to a high-ranking member of Hamas.
A burned, destroyed car was left on the road a block from Rantisi's house and one badly burned body was removed from the car by paramedics. Witnesses said there were three people in the car at the time.
It was unclear if Rantisi, Hamas' top leader in Gaza, was in the car at the time of the explosion.

Israel: Hamas Leader's Car Blown Up in Air Strike
Saturday, April 17, 2004
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Israel blew up Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi's (search) car in Gaza City (search) on Saturday, Israeli security sources said. Hamas said Rantisi was seriously injured in the attack and two other passengers in the car were killed.
Israeli security sources, which had earlier reported Rantisi was killed, also said he was seriously wounded. After the explosion, Israeli helicopters were heard in the area.
A burned, destroyed car was left on the road near Rantisi's house, and one badly burned body was removed from the car by paramedics. Witnesses said there were three people in the car at the time of the explosion.
Palestinians ran into the street and called for revenge.
Rantisi is Hamas top leader in Gaza and one of the most hard-line members of the militant movement who rejects all compromise with Israel and calls for the destruction of the Jewish state.
Israel had previously tried to kill Rantisi in a helicopter strike on his car June 10. In a retaliatory attack the next day, 16 Israelis were killed in a Hamas suicide bombing in Jerusalem.
The explosion happened Saturday evening a block from Rantisi's house in the Sheik Radwan (search) neighborhood of Gaza City, about 100 yards from where Hamas founder Sheik Ahmed Yassin (search) was buried after Israel assassinated him last month.
Since then, Israel has vowed to kill the entire leadership of the Islamic militant organization.

Why not fire 20 FFARs at the car? Now they just put him a wheelchair so he can more closely resemble his predecessor.

Yep we are after them big time!! :D
Oh and I remember last time after Yassin was killed, all the detractors here said it was a terrible thing because now Hamas will revenge blah blah or that it will just create more blah blah blah (as if they weren’t lining up before anyways  )
The bottom line is this.
Hamas has been on a systematic campaign of terror for the past few years now and this whole notion of revenge for them is BS for they attempt and attack regardless of what Israel does or doesn’t do, the same is for their ominous announcements that Israel will pay big time for that too has been said from the beginning and it is always repeated so nothing new here.
Before the yassin killing they were trying and after they were trying….no difference in the amount of attempts from before and after.
Before Israel went after them a little over two years ago in a bigger way, there was a homicide bombing and shooting attacks almost daily and for sure weekly and now after the IDF actions, it has been dramatically reduced by over fifty percent to where even after yassin is killed and they said that Israel would pay for that immediately they couldn’t pull it off.
Of course I believe there will be another homicide bombing for there is no 100 percent ay to stop everyone, but we have limited them big time and are going to limit it even more with some of the bigger moves that we are making (the completion of the anti terror security fence and a few other things)
And so the cycle continues.
what cycle?
I mean they are on a systematic campaign....its not like if we didn’t hunt them down or if we didn’t fire a single shot (thus no cycle from us) they still wouldn’t target our civilians
No in the face of that reality we are forced to defend ourselves and take the fight to them and that is what we are doing!!
Shalom :D

This may force Hamas to have secret underground leadership.
Which is great - this way it will be much harder to plan&execute terror attacks. (and thats what war against terror is all about)
Hamas (and other terror groups) are based on "cells" - every cell member knows his memebers (4-5 people) and only the commander knows his commander = when a "commander" is dead all the cells under him are "lost" in the system cause no one can reach them and they can't reach others.

Top Hamas leader Abd al-Aziz al-Rantisi has been killed by an Israeli helicopter missile strike on his car in Gaza City.
Two of al-Rantisi's bodyguards were also killed in the attack on Saturday evening.
Medics said al-Rantisi was rushed to a Gaza City hospital in a critical condition after the attack. He had reportedly been wounded in the head with shrapnel.
Hundreds of outraged Hamas members and supporters flocked to the hospital after news of the Israeli raid.
The air strike occurred hours after an Israeli border policeman was killed by a Palestinian bomber at the Erez crossing on the Israeli-Gaza border.
No immediate comment was available from the Israeli army on the helicopter strike.
Co-founder
Al-Rantisi, a co-founder of Hamas, has become one of its two main leaders since Israel's killing of Hamas spiritual head Ahmad Yasin in Gaza on 22 March.
Israel tried to kill al-Rantisi, the public face of a Palestinian resistance group that normally stays in the shadows, last June.
On that occasion he and his teenage son were wounded in an Israeli helicopter missile strike on his car, also in Gaza City.
Al-Rantisi had refused to go into hiding like many of his comrades on Israel's wanted list since Hamas launched a human bombing campaign to spearhead a three and a half-year-old Palestinian uprising.
Political role
He had long depicted himself as a Hamas politician with no links to the military wing.
But Israel had refused to accept the distinction, accusing him of being a top decision-maker on attacks and of using his media role to incite violence.
With al-Rantisi filling the role of Hamas spokesman, camera crews from around the world have trooped to his modestly furnished living room to hear him issue vows of revenge, often in calm, even tones, for Israel's killing of resistance activists.
I am REALLY surprised. It actually sound more or less "objective", I mean AP and ******* at least mention the "cycle of violence".
