hey all i was wondering if anyone has some information(scientific, graphical, whatever) on artillery breech locks. Now I've made the simple google searches and didn't find much.. all I know is that today we use the screw type and sliding block trype breech mechanims. i myself operate a screw tyoe on the m109 in IDF and Im interested in some info(on all types).

here's something on breech mechanisms.
http://riv.co.nz/rnza/hist/ord/breech.htm

it states that sliding blocks are less safe than screw mechansims. however i never had problems with it (105mm Bofors) all of the crew still have all of their hands and fingers.
