I have friend who was studying for one year on WAT(Wojskowa Akademia Techniczna==Military Technical Academy with is kind of mix betwen West Point & MIT) , he resigned for personal reasons. He told me that they were learning about estimated times to death of variety equipment and people in on battlefield in full scale conflict.. ie: he said that average officer have something around 2 to 3 hours of life on full scale battlefield, private little more... He doesn't remember mutch to say nothing(he left school 4 or 5 years ago and he isn't related to military anymore) so I'm curious if anyone know what are times for tankers, planes, radiooperators, machineguners etc?

During WWII somebody who served about 2-4 years saw about 40 days of combat.
By the time vietnam came men served for 18months and saw about 280 days of combat

If my memory serves me correctly, those times are calculated to be the average "life-times" of various military personnel starting from a contact to the enemy.
I live 7min, or so I'm told ;)

You mean what am I?
If I understand correctly, since US has somewhat different organisation, the closest thing (in the US army) might be a forward observer.
I'm not sure if FO is correct, I'm the guy who orders and directs indirect fire...

No, not really. Since those are just numbers calculated from expected casualties in case of an all-out war with a certain neighbouring country, hence they don't project the actual outcome.
And in that 7mins I'll be able to send our enemies a *warm* welcome, many times over :D

I knew a guy that was in Canadian armour and he was telling me that his expected time in battle was 17 min. He actually got a little clock and set the timer for 17min so that if he goes to combat, he'll set the clock for 17min and if it goes off he'll know he did better then expected.
Ahh thats why dimplomacy all the way for me :)

Be so kind and deliver something more informative... So far you contributed nothing to this topic, I at least tried. And judging from other members answer I was not so wrong since nobody posted lifetime expectancy exceeding 17 minutes so far...
