NIFV has multiple layer armor(with S-2 glass fiber and ceramic complex)and used lightweight alluminium alloy.

NIFV is equipped with Bofors L/70 40mm gun. It has most powerful gun among IFVs(BMP-3 has 100mm gun but it only can fire HE for infantry).

Side of NIFV. Its armor protection level is still classified, but we can suppose...
Front : can defend APDS of russian 2A72 30mm gun(RHA 50mm penetration at 1,000m)
Side&Rear : can defend AP of russian 14.5mm HMG(RHA 25mm penetration at 1,000m)
Upper part : can defend fragment of russian 152mm shell 10m airburst

Deploying tube type floater of NIFV. NIFV weighs about 25t and cannot cross a river by buoyancy, so it is equipped with floater under the skirt armor.

Just a question for floaters, does that be the main weakness for the IFV?
If the IFV accross the river:

-enemy MG took out the IFV...
-sharpnel leak the IFV floaters...

anything could happen, it is practical??

When submerged front side of tube is under the surface of water so it is not exposed to enemy fire. The skirt armor covers upper side of tube and skirt armor can defend MG or shell fragments.

So it is pretty practical whether it looks unreliable or not p-)

It still needs to be field proven but they had really no choice but to install the floaters. River crossing ability was an important requirement for the NIFV as the Korean Peninsula has numerous streams and rivers cutting through its terrain.

It was almost impossible to give the NIFV positive buoyancy with just the hull. Weapons systems and armour were just too heavy. So they came up with the floaters. They are compartmentalized and self-sealing and should be able to take some rounds. One could never be sure if they will really work in combat though..

It would hardly be practical at all to perform a river crossing under enemy fire. The vehicles in the water move way to slow for such actions. But because it can float you can cross the river anywhere and you're not bound to bridges. So you just pick a spot where there's no enemy's.

I really like this IFV. You guys already had what looked like a scaled down M1 Abrahms and now you also have a scaled down Bradley :-P I sure like the looks of it and it looks capable of doing it's job very well. A 40mm is a very nice choise as the main gun. Light enough to fire rapidly and heavy enough to kick some serious ass

:)wow, the IFV really match the requirement for geographical terrain in Korea. Well, that the advantage of indegeneous made IFV, i guess.

Great pics and vehicle, thanks!:D
It’s a good thing to have added a panoramic sight. It gives a better vision to the commander, especially by night.
Does someone know what ATGM will be fitted on the vehicle?
