WHAT is a US Army Captain doing with a FAL?

'Saw that too, quite an attention-getter in these pics. The apparent resurgence of the M14 (from other images in other galleries) was intriguing considering its age. This is plainly odd.

I wonder if this was a confiscated weapon he's merely handling out of curiousity? But, I wouldn't expect to see too many FALs outside of central Africa and South America ..

What shotgun is the trooper carrying. There's another shot of it leaning against a wall. It's not a Mossberg 590, nor does it look like the new Benelli semiautomatic. Is it a Remington 870?

After seeing the photo of the captain with a FN FAL, some Pentagon officer is probably writing up an order telling troopers not to carry unauthorized weapons :P

I can't quite figure the FN FAL thing out. Perhaps Special Forces are hunting downs Saddam's Stallions in 'Operation Arabian Ali Baba' with weapons of choice. The Shotgun appears to be a Remington 870.

It wouldn't be so funny if a hostile 'popped up' from inside the Stable to take a potshot at Capt. Summer. Lots of GI's are getting shot at right now.

I invite anyone to help with the FAL question. Chance perhaps?

My guess (from the fact that the good Captain is not wearing a helmet/cap and the FAL doesn't have a sling) is that this is a souvenir picked up in the area and Mr Garen from AP caught him in the act.

Picked straight from the stash, no, it wouldn't be advised. But if, say, an armorer has checked it for ****y trap and there is plenty of ammo handy, why not give it a shot?

well, which would you rather trust your life to? a lightweight gun that you've spent years training with, or a rather heavy older gun that you've just started using and only fired a couple of times?

I wasn't implying in any way that this soldier had thrown his personal weapon away in favor of one he just found, or that he should, for that matter.

I think he's toying around with this FAL, not using it in combat, in which he's obviously not engaged on this picture, with no helmet, standing in the middle of the road and with a photographer less than 15 ft. away.

First two pics are definately SA-3's.

The large in width missiles laying down appear to be either some form of scuds or al samouds.

Then the smaller missiles in the last few pics i believe are Sunburn anti-ship missiles...though i could be wrong.
