This is a very nice graphical depiction of the changes that have taken place in the Middle East over the last 5000 Years.

Interesting. Thanks STIG for posting. I hope it'll be discussed from historical perspepctive not for motivation who is right today and have more rights than others.

The way the empires fade away on the map long before most of them actually disappear in historical context, it seems that they have to be either touching Jerusalem or Baghdad to stay visible.

The flash shows what empires have controled the middle east, not how long they've been around.

There are lots of interesting things on that site, this for instance: http://www.mapsofwar.com/ind/signs-of-occupation.html . Looked better pre-2003.

the human civilization and the whole species is like a snowflake falling into lava, compared to the time that universe operates on

Actually the time scroll on the bottom shows when and how long they controlled a region. Plus, some remenants stay put after getting a nice chunk taken out of them before being completely taken over (Kingdom of Israel still visible after Assyria takes a good chunk away), while other dissappear completely on the map (Byzantine Empire dissapearing after having a small chunk taken away by the Sassanids), even when they are still around a while before finally going away in real life. Informative map anyways.
