I see the thread got deleted, not sure why - I was busy typing a response only to see it vanish when I hit submit.
I have a question about the Falluja thing in general, and I'm quoting a bit from that MSNBC article. I won't put the link to the article, to try prevent whatever caused the deleting of the original thread. The question I have concerns the part of the quote I've put in bold. (I'm quoting quite a bit more, to put it in context).
600. The number of people killed during the current siege of Fallujah, according to hospital officials there. They’re estimating though, since many dead are not brought to the hospital but buried immediately according to Islamic traditions. Most of them are civilians, and the majority women and children, according to these officials, whose accounts are impossible to verify since no independent journalists have been able to visit Fallujah.
600. The number of people killed during the current siege of Falluja, according to spokesmen for the Marines’ First Division besieging that city, who say that 95 percent of the victims are military-age men, and the others are human shields used by the resistance there. Again, a number that is impossible to verify. “That just proves that the Marines are very good at what they do,” one official said.
Why are no independent journalists being allowed into Falluja? I have no idea what the rationale was/is, but.... it wasn't a clever move in my opinion. To people who don't like the US, this could be pointed to as the US NOT WANTING the truth to come out. Surely, if they want the world to know the truth about what they are doing, and discredit any propoganda crap by other parties, letting journalists go there and report would be a simple thing. Don't tell me it's too dangerous or anything - the full-scale war was dangerous too but journalists had a party.
P.S. Please, this is not an attack on America - do not respond aggressively to this honest question. It not an attempt to start a flame war etc etc.
