US ambassador to Liberia, John Blaney (front) and US citizens wait, 09 June 2003 before being evacuated by French troops from war-wracked Liberian capital Monrovia as continuing battles between rebels and government forces cast a shadow over peace talks in nearby Ghana. People are being flown to the French military vessel "Orage" (Storm) anchored nearby in the Atlantic Ocean off Monrovia. yep, I think they could be members of the DAOS (Détachement ALAT(Aviation Légère de l'Armée de Terre) des Opérations Spéciales)

it means Detachement of the Army Light Aviation of the Special Operations

some others pics I've found of this evac called "Opération Providence" :

yes, I believe the DAOS has a squadron equipped with Cougar for sar missions
the 1er RPIMa would use another material, but there might be some members with them, and if it was the CPA-10, I think we would have seen Air Force helis
could someone confirm ?

fantassin is not around :petting:

The DAOS has no ground troops.

The ground element was provided by COS Commando-Marine operators (hence the modified G3 with ACOG scope rifle on one of the pics) and by the anti tank platoon of the support company of the 21°RIMa.

Lol for some reason those pics of the Helo landing on the ship remind me of one of my favorite Simpsons quotes

*After being evacuated Saigon style from the American embassy in Australia Homer talks to the pilot*
Homer: Are we going to an Aircraft Carrier?
Pilot: No, Sir. We're going to the USS Walter Mondale. It's a laundry ship!
