The Sphere is good. So is the Andromeda Strain. Or read some "Star Wars" books.

Try something from Peter F. Hamilton...: The Reality Dysfunction 1. Emergence
Its scifi, but very good
Not really techno-thriller, but still great thrillers... anything by Dean Koontz.

Try one of the Andy McNab Books, or a Chris Ryan novel. (look beyond the hype of Bravo two zero/the one that got away, if you can!) Both are pretty easy-on-the-brain entertainment fodder. Richard marcinko is also a good escape-hatch from reality. The Mack Bolan series also make for some entertaining reading in an anti-terrorist theme, as well. BTW, Google will help with any one of these titles, dude.
Alternatively, Wilbur smith does good long novels/epics about Africa, (Like James Mitchner does about America...) if you're laid up recuperating. Try one of the ones about ancient Egypt, or a Courtney or Ballantyne family saga.. They are pretty cool.
Unless you aspire to pilot B-52's, steer clear of Dale Brown novels, as well as Stephen "flight-of-the-intruder" Coontz. Naval Aviation and strategic air command fastmover epics make for a good cure for insomnia, to me, at least!

I'nm reading By the Rivers of Babylon by Nelson DeMille right now. Quite intense, Israeli and Palestinian peace delegates get highjacked and are forced to fight a pitch battle against Palestinian commandoes in Iraq. Reads like a Middle Eastern ALAMO.

Author: Ian Douglas
The Heritage Trilogy
Semper Mars
Luna Marine
Europa Strike
The Legacy Trilogy
Star Corps
Books 2/3 to come...
Those are some very entertaining military sci-fi books (pretty easy to read as well) following actions of the US Marines in 2040, 2042, 2067, and 2138 respectively for each book. The technology involved gets pretty insane in Star Corps as well.

Lary Bond has some good techno thrillers ala Tom Clancy style. He actually collaberated with Clancy on Red Storm Rising which came out of a naval wargame the two played (Harpoon I believe).
His first was about a North Korean invasion of South Korea Can't remember the title. RED Something
The Second was called VORTEX and set in South Africa prior to the ANC coming to power which means it's a bit dated now. Basically an ultra right wing faction of Afrikaaners don't like the moderates in power and kill the entire Government blaming it on the ANC. They then declare martial law and invade Namibia and Angola. While the SADF is tied up there Cuba launches an Invasion of South Africa through Zimbabwe and Mozambique with ANC and other units attached.
The moderates in the SADF mutiny and a civil war errupts in and around Capetown. The US and UK then invade to ensure the Cubans don't get their hands on South Africa's natural resourses and to restore the moderate Government.
Quite well done especially the chapters where the 75th Rangers jump into the SADF nuclear testing facillity to try and capture it.
The third one was called CAULDRON and was basically French/German dominated European Union (EUROCORPS?) attacking Eastern Europe (Hungary and POland) and the US and UK coming tho their aid. Again well researched and written.
VORTEX is cool... I read that book.
