That pic must be 2 - 3 years old. I live there, and ive gotta say its brilliant to see all the ships coming and going..

^ well of course it is, it's not like they are going to publish latest satellite imagery... I think there is a some kind of law that prevents publishing of satellite imagery unless it's at least couple of years old... I might be wrong here..

Ditto. You could see the carriers from the M275 as you drive into town.
Triton looks even more unusual at ground level,

It's not too sad the early FSC concept based on trimaran design was dropped. This hull form is a current trend I'd not want to see gain popularity. Same for the tumblehome.

The ship entitled Invincible Class Aircraft Carrier with the R on the flight deck is the Ark Royal. Just below in the basin is the Intrepid
The ship marked as the Invincible I think may be the Illustrious as the Sea Dart Missile system for'd has been removed. Hard to be sure as the deck letter is covered up.
Invicible has now been paid off so a current photo will show her in the large basin.
Here is a very rare photo of Fearless and Intrepid in Portsmouth Harbour awaiting disposal.:-(

Why? 123456
Because a trimaran design has its own set of problems. Granted they are a potentially more stable platform and offer slightly more deck space and slightly less hydrodynamic drag, as well as allows systems to be placed farther away from each other, improving system redundancy.
However, the below-deck usable volume is reduced and even split up to three narrow hulls, interfering with larger installations and making damage control problematic. As a result, much has to be relocated into the superstructure, increasing their size and visual signature, as well as increasing top weight partially compensating the better seakeeping capabilities. Greater exposition to external effects is another result.
The large superstructures and small hulls interfere with weapons installation.
On a side note, increased beam of the ship makes harbour maneuvers difficult to perform.
The tumblehome hull has negative effects on seekeeping in heavy seas, for example due to the bow cutting under the waves, resulting in less buoancy, course stability. A wet (or even commonly flooded) forecastle interfers with weapon installations and crew on deck. The only advantage is a debatable and minor reduction of the radar cross section.
