Hi!

Is there anyone here who knoews where i can find footages of the Force Recon Marines' landing in Somalia back in 1992 or 1993, i think? The one where they were met by flashing cameras of the media?

Also, i'm looking for footages of the hostaged Airbus by GIGN in Marseilles back in Dec. 1994 (i found one at GIGN.org, but if you have other sites where i can download a full length of it, better) :)

And finally, the recent takedown by the "Peruvian commandos" of the Japanese Embassy in Lima in 1997 i think.

Thanks in advance :)

Ooh, that video from Marseilles, that was a good one. I saw bits and pieces of it through a show on the Discovery Channel, but I haven't seen all 22 minutes of it. But, I did get a pretty good and lengthy report on it from specialoperations.com. A lot of tactical police units use that video to conduct case studies, and learn from it. So, you might want to find a police officer, and ask him/her.

JohnJohn, I've heard both. Some say Force Recon, some say SEALs. I'm not sure which it was.

I've been looking for the entire Marseilles video too, so if I find anything, I'll let you know.

About the guys who landed at Somalia, what i know of them initially were SEALs, then (i can't remember from what site) they say they were Force Recon...and so now, i really dunno...but whether SEALs or Force Recon, i would never know for now..... :)

The GIGN takedown was spectacular! I actually saw it on the news footage back then, the whole footage but that's it...now i'm trying to collate footages of international specops, notable this at Marseilles, the Somalia landing, and if ever also the one that happened recently in Afghanistan, the failed assasination attempt at Pres. Karzai, the one where Hood had pics of Devgru guys . :)

Make sure you include Operation Nimrod (London, 1980, British SAS, Irainian Embassy). Specops footage would not be complete without it.

My favorite part about Marseilles is the irony of the two men who fell off the plane. First, you have the GIGN operator who opens the door, but the stair truck moves back, and he gets caught in between. He catches on the top of the stairs, but was paratrooper trained, and knew how to fall and land without hurting himself. He drops, springs back up, and walks away.

Then you have the pilot who climbs out of the window. He slides out onto the nose, and the BAM!! He falls straight on his arse and breaks his arm.

I just bought Black Hawk Down Deluxe Edition. And there is a History channel show called "The true story of Black Hawk Down" and they have a short segment when the Marines landing on the beach to start Operation: Restore Hope. They didnt say Force Recon, and they didnt say SEALs, they only said Marines. They have guys with boonie hats and camo paint while everyone else is just in normal helmets, but thats not saying much, hehehe. Hope that helps.

I think it where marines, according to this article...

During the early days of Operation
RESTORE HOPE, 10 December 1992 to 15 January 1993, the 10th Group deployed a Coalition
Support Team to Somalia in support of the 1st Belgian Para*Commando Battalion. The team was
led by WO1 Doug Bell and SFC(P) Brad Aimone. Bell conducted the amphibious assault at
Kismayo with U.S. Marines and a company of Belgian Para, while the rest of the team flew from
Belgium with the remainder of the Battalion in a 9*ship C*130 formation to Kismayo. The CST, all
French speakers but one, conducted patrols with Belgian forces, assisted the U.S. 10th Mtn
Division with intelligence preparation of the battlefield, and provided security for meetings with
Somalian leaders.
