Suunto M9. Not that I've ever had to escape, but this one works good when you need to find your cardinal directions while moving sorta quickly.

My compass isn't even a compass at all.

One can do a similar thing with a stick and an analog watch. Point the hour hand in the direction of the sun, south is between the hour hand, and 12.
Unless you lack sunlight, in which case you are semi-out of luck. I usually have 3 compasses on me while in the backcountry. Knowledge is a complement, but not replacement, to fine equipment. :)

You must be up north... southern hemisphere its 12 to the sun and mid-way between 12 and hour hand is true north.
