Since I live in southern Sweden I can see many German TV-channels, and they
show a lot of good series and movies. But everything is dubbed to German.

Yes we do..this is quite good idea and I like it more than dubbing esspecialy bad one...Its sounds funny at begining, but when you use to it its not more annoyning than normal subtitles, you hear voices of actors and magicaly you undestand what they are talking about :) and your brain doesn't hear/notice lector's voice. Pure Magic :) ... And for God's sake how you Germans can stand your dubbings, if you turn off vision german dubbed movies sounds like best quality ****o :)

No it's hard but not impossible, afer dubing or subtitling we ussualy watch different commedy, sometimes much better than oryginal if translator was good :)

Little off topic, but talking bout movies.

I once was in a Dutch Center-Parc (for everybody who doesn't know Center-Parcs, check HERE (http://www.centerparcs.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=CPE/Page/EntryPage)) and they were showing hardcore movies with all the good stuff ;) on regular tv... I don't think it would work with any other language. The movie loses too much of what it's just all about cause of the syncronisation.

Good point Herrman. For example, the Bud Spencer, Jean-Paul Belmondo...movies are 1000 times better in german than in the orginal language.

There is no syncro in the Nordic countries, (5 million Danes, 5 million Norweigians,
5 million Finns and 10 million Swedes). I don´t even look at the text when watching
a American movie or series, it´s just to listen to what they say.

Cartoons are syncronized however.

YOu're right, but this specific movie is only funny to viewers that know sth. about German behaviour, German dialects, different German regions.

It's the same if you would show me a movie about Polish guys and all the funny scenes are only funny to Poles who have that certain "insider knowledge". You gettin my point, Herm?

No, never seen that. But "Manitu" is all about an Indian (Apache) who speaks with a bavarian accent. How would you translate that into US English? Even if you substitue the bavarian with let's say some southern US accent, I can't imagine it would work.

I get your point..its hard, chalengig but not immposible even with very local sense of humor, language is ****in pant's gum, you can strech it to any lenght you want, but you must be very careful to not tear it :)
