I got the kits, but I ain't got the camera. (Or access to them until June).
FYI: a Hanomag half track, a Chieftan, an SAS Land Rover, and numerous WW2 figures. Also a Warrior IFV, Sherman and Tiger 1 in boxes.

Anyone else?

This is T-80BV build on Dragon kit, however all small details are built from scratch. Most important improvement on the model, was making of some 120+ individual ERA "bricks" and attaching them on the hull and turret individually, each attached on two bolts, creating spacing between surface and the ERA "brick". Concord publication "T-64 and T-80" is great source for close up views of T-80BV.

Something different (inspired by photograph of well worn LAV-25 from the end of DS1):

Is that the Italeri LAV kit there Rbull or is it the Revell?

I would post some pics of my armor models but none of them are actually completed.

The one's I have been working off and on for quite some time now are:
HobbyCraft Fedayeen truck
HobbyCraft M2A2
Tamiya M106A1(Im planning on converting that into a M106A2 actually)

And I have a Tamiya M113A2 in the mail and on the way.

Merik- yes, that is the Italeri kit.
Now I want to build Tamiya's M1A2, which is THE best Abrams kit on the market (and is including parts for M1A1HA and Marines versions as well). They have corrected the turret front part to correct dimensions and shape, comparing the previous M1A1 model. Unlike new Italeri M1A2 and older Dragon M1A1/2, Tamiya added even more crisp tiny details, new tracks hollow head and rear lights with clear lenses on them, hollow periscopes and much more. I am looking forward to build at least one platoon of these ;)

V-150 or similar.

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/asv-234_s.jpg
Its used by US Military Police as the (X)M-1117 with a turret like on USMC AAV7A1's.

Cadillac Gage V-150 (the one below is a V-100). The Saudi's bought some with the M-163 Vulcan mounted on it for airbase defence. You generaly see them with various turrets mounted on them.

it comes with everything, I just had to make that grass thing.

some parts you have to paint before you glue them( if you cant reach there after)
and some parts you can paint after, it realy depends on what you doing.
and get good glue it realy help to make models look beter.

Ian H
05-08-2004, 11:38 AM
I use Humbrol Poly Cement. Its good, but does get annoying when your trying to do fiddly bits and it takes forever to bond, and glue flows all over the model taking the paint off...

I use superglue for some figures, mostly metal/plastic bonds, it might be worth a try, the paint doesn't come off but you do get a white coating left, and for ****'s sake don't stick it to your fingers.

You got me thinking for a second.... ;)
But here's some prove, probably a lot more if you search hard...
(I think they do that so that the vehiclemarking is also vissible when the turret is turned 45 degrees/to the side)

Im thinking Im gonna buy the DML M1s because of what I've read about the Tamiya kit. Its basically the same kit that they have had for the past 20 years or so but all the do is change a smidgen here and there and raise the price $10 or so.

Actually, the newer Tamiya M1A2 kit has plenty of ALL NEW parts, namely the turret which is finally corrected (shape and lenght of front armor), have many beautifull details you will not find on any other M1 kit. If you can, just look at the kit somewhere, check the dwo different (optional) commander cupolas and all the small details on it. There is the APU unit on the rear of turret, different details for Army M1A1HA, M1A2 and Marines M1A1HA variants.
Also the hull get revamped a bit, especially the rear part with exhaust grilles. The rear lights and their protective guards are now both separate and so on.
Not to mention new tracks (really well done) and reshaped rear sprockets (two variants).
Pls do not get me wrong, I am not working for Tamiya, I just love Abrams and this new kit is just the best M1 in 1/35. Neither Dragon, Trumpeter, or Academy got the turret right and neither of them offers such detail level as the new Tamiya kit IMO.

Merik

Yeah but Tamiya's kit still has parts and molds that date back to thier original model in 1982 that was based off of the M1 prototype.

RBull
05-19-2004, 06:14 PM
True, all Tamiya M1 Abrams tanks releases were based on the original M1 kit from 80's, but as I had them all since M1, then M1A1, M1A1 with mine plow and now finally the M1A2, I can tell you that the only part which remained from the original model is in fact the lower hull with molded suspension arms (legs?) and the roadwheels plus polycaps. Even the return rollers have changed, the hull is re-wamped with added and changed details according the later versions, and the turret and tracks are new from scratch, as are few sprues of additional details. I do not want to argue about something like plastic model, just that Abrams is my favorite tank and therefore I have been following the changes in the model and models of this tank from other manufacturers as well. That does not mean the other models will not satisfy your needs, but Tamiya's latest M1A1HA/M1A2 kit is the best of them all when it comest to specs and quality of details. When price comest to play, your rating may change - nothing wrong with that.

IMO the Tamiya M1's are the best models with the only drawback being no "non-slip" surfaces.

Hey that's really cool! I love nice, hyper-detailed 1/35 dioramas.

I'd like to get into this hobby, is there some good book or reference, you know, to learn the basic techniques, like drybrushing (or something like that)?

I used to make airplanes (1/72, 1/48), it's not too hard, I made them look pristine, like museum displays, but I don't have the first clue about weathering, making models look chipped, dirty, you know. Or to make figures lifelike.

I know this is sort of an extreme example, but I think of dioramas like this:
