Who started the website?

How old is the website?

Where did the idea come from?

Who were the first forum users?

Who is the oldest Veteran on militaryphotos.net?

Ups and Downs and interesting stories in the life of militaryphotos.net?

Anyone know any of these details or any other relevant information?

all i can remember was that it was at a very different address than militaryphotos.net, and that there were no forums, ppl flamed each other under the comment section of each pic.

Aye, i remember this site as more dedicated airsoft with some photos thrown in for enjoyment. Used to be on the aixgaming domain (airsofting site?). And best/worst of all, you were not required to register an account to post on the forum (there was only one back then). Madness!
Can't remember how i first came about the site, think it was through a link on some Flashpoint site. Anyhow, had some photos submitted and eventually gor an account. Haven't been the biggest poster though...

Budanksi is one of the site veterans. One of the few who are since 2002 here.

Here are the 6 oldest users:

Militaryphotos.net was originally founded in 1843. It was the brain-child of the now famous Lt.Gen. John Schlong II (who's efforts where later recognized and he was ennobled by the Queen).

Schlong were at that point a somewhat anonymous member of the general-staff but he was a man of visions. The idea was to use the then brand new invention called Internet as a medium to discuss innovations in the military field.

Sir John Schlong II Lt.Gen. (Ret)

Militaryphotos.net soon became a popular place among professionals, enthusiasts and wanna-be's alike. Below are a couple of pictures of both pro's and enthusiasts...

Militaryphotos.net members SpecOpsDelta2 and Redbeard are always eager to share some war-stories...

Some military enthusiasts (airsofters?)

Certainly one of the oldest members (we are not sure if he in fact is the Oldest veteran on the board) must be k1ngT1g3r. He is the only member of the board who boasts having 4 tank destruction badges from the Franco-German war of 1870. k1ngt1g3r nowadays work for a private military company in the middle-east...

Well, that concludes our little history lesson. For further reading I would recommend "Militaryphotos.net - the definite history" by John Schlong II, jr.

Ranta - maybe just a little Hatch or Alta kneepad for them and a KAC silencer on one of these muskets would add more spice... :D

Forum-wise, Budanski and Hood are the only two that have been here longer than me and still post. I started commenting in the photo album (back when you could) somewhere in August of '02

I have no idea when I first started posting comments to the photo section (I know that I did during the war in afghanistan and long before the iraq war).

I'm looking at the join date, and it seems like the forum was inhabited by gamers (?) from 2000 to 2002. Hood for a while was posting as a guest with the name <Hood>. Hood and Budanski registered at approximately the same time in September of 2002. After that point, the forum you see now starts to take shape and the forum grows in popularity exponentially. And they lived happily ever after. ;)

I think that's where the forums were re-done. I have no idea. It's possible that this forum served as the site for [AIX] gamers, now www.aixgaming.com. There are several members of that board who were originally members of this board.

I probably visited the photo section of militaryphotos.net in late 2001/early 2002. I wish Hood could give us more of a history. :)

Mortimer just left on his own. Same with adamballchet. Personally, I started reading the site somewhere at the start of 2003. Started posting several months later.

I remember when the site was hosted at AIX Gaming...

It was just after the start of OEF, Ryan (VirtualPender) had started to gather pics from Afghanistan.

There was no boards, just user comments under the pics, and boy did we have some flamewars going on...the boards look tame in comparison.

Cool... ;)

the main reason I came to this site was the conservative attitudes that I found here but things have changed around here :( I guess a good smelling piece of cheese attracts rats too.

I started visiting when the site was run by virtualpender and was basically a small collection of photos of SOF in Afghanistan. Slowly but surely it expanded and became the massive database it is now and I started posting alot in the photos comments. Eventually when they started putting the newest topics listed on the front page, one of the topics caught my eye and I started posting here on 8 February 2003.

I love the amount of OEF pictures, and eventually signed up on the forums. Ive been here longer than most.
