View Full Version : Need some censorship (other examples)
Home early on Saturday night and watching History channel. An air traffic controler goes on that they are lucky that it was a fine weather day Sept 11 or there would be a lot more chaos on grounding planes and differentiating common carriers and at risk flights. Is it me or is this constant barage of (basic but harmful) how-to info completely out of hand? Yes I understand that this is intel that the enemy easily can find, but it shouldn't be put in their face. If I am not stating my argument very well, let me give an example. My fianc'e is consumed with Courtv garbage that has done nothing but train me what mistakes not to make should I decide to kill her. Before you call police this is a runnng joke between us. I simply do not understand giving info to the public at large that they have no reason to know. I have no hinges of fascism, but if these television people know no bounds, they should have them forced on them. I am just tired of profit going above security foreign or domestic. Looking for other examples because I got a million of them but the mind is not willing to release them to me at present. This is the rants section isn't it?

Exelent idea, then we should start blocking all commie european sites that are muslim friendly.
After that, maybe micronphones for every home to keep dissidents at bay.
Calm down. I see I am not the only loser home at 2:30.
I am just frustarated at the lack of responsibilty by the media. I do not mean complete government control (hence the no fascist point I made out for just such a responce) but the play by play of what American's opinions about this or that options on world stage should not just be thrown out there. It reminds of NY Times reporting secret financial investigations. As soon as they were called on it, they said it wasn't secret. Well make up your mind, is it secret or not? Either you are lying or you are sensationalizing. My argument probably should have been better thought out, but TV comments hit me while I have my mind tied behind my back. I think you get the jist of what I am getting at though. Again I am not a fascist. But I do play one on TV.

In my personal opinion, what the air traffic controller said about the weather being a factor in grounding all aircraft on 9/11.....I can let something like that slide, mainly because he was just making a point as far as pointing out the magnitude of the situation. However, media speaking, when you have someone like Geraldo Rivera being embedded with a combat unit and starts drawing a line in the sand, describing the unit's whereabouts and such, well that's just plain wrecklessness and stupidity on his behalf. I'm sure Geraldo didn't realize just how many lives he risked when he pulled that little stunt when the war broke out.

I'm a firm believer that any government peice of paper should be available to the public at any time.
In the event of security issues the information should be available to the public within a week of an event happening.

That's a nice little death warrant to anyone serving in a sneaky type unit in your government.
Either that or any type of military after action review would become some of the vaguest writings known to man.

I believe every piece of paper should be available...eventually.
It's good for both history and transparency.

Of course identities should be kept secret. Personal privacy should be gaurenteed.
To use an example.
Say the 41st Battalion, The Royal New South Wales Regiment was deployed to say Norfolk Island to remove a foreign power from the island. Also in support of the operation is HMAS Anzac, HMAS Newcastle, HMAS Kanimbla and the RAAF No 75 Squadron provided the Air Support.
Now I would have no problem that within a week of the operation winding down that details of the operation were released to the public with respect to the privacy of individuals.

But a lot more paperwork would be generated. Situation reports, contact reports, patrol debriefs, every mans service record. Are they not government pieces of paper?

Of course. Let me state that I don't believe personal information needs to be released. But everything else should be available on request.
Why keep things hidden? Freedome of Information Laws exist for this very reason. To prevent governments from acting without public knowledge. Could you imagine what governments would get up to without such laws?

yes, eventually.
There are good reasons why some things are state secrets, but I do believe in a accountable government. Especially when it comes to budgets.
