Assault Rifle, Ammo Seized at Border Crossing

A fully loaded automatic AK74 assault rifle and 417 rounds of ammunition were seized at the Champlain border crossing in northeastern New York.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say officers stopped Adam Predin, 31, a Serbian-born U.S. citizen from Phoenix, as he applied for admission into the United States on Tuesday.

Predin told officers he was returning after being refused entry into Canada. He claimed the purpose of his travel to Canada was to play golf in the Quebec area.

While checking his vehicle, officers say they discovered the assault rifle between the front passenger and rear seat, concealed under clothing.

The assault rifle and ammunition were turned over to New York State Police, who arrested Predin on charges of possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle.

And despite what's written, I'd like to see if it really was an AK-74 or a semi-auto SAR-2 (or varient). Reporters usually don't get that stuff right.
