Hey.
I've been lurking here a while but as I can actually add to this topic...
I did get to fly in one, Summer of 2006 in St John's, Newfoundland. A B-17G "Liberty Belle" and it was incredible. It cost $700.00 Cdn but it was worth every penny. To feel her lean into a turn and pull up, banking to about 25-30 dgrees; one of the high points in my life. There was something really graceful about her, along with the sheer power. The tail gun and ball turret werent accessable but the nose, cockpit, radioroom, top turret and waist guns were all open. Once airborne you could move about. Flight was about 35-40 min, out over the Atlantic, in over Torbay, over the city and a few circuits of the airport to basically show off. Not bad for a 60 year old airplane.
The guy is using Liberty Belle to raise funds to restore another B-17 he recovered from a lake in Labrador a few years ago. She made stops in Dear Lake, Stephenville, Gander, and Newfie John's. Not the first B-17 to be here but probably the last.
I've got a tonne of pics. If I can find somewhere to upload them, I'll post the link.
Whats better than a Wright R-1820-97 Cyclone? Four of 'em.

I was fortunate enough to fly in a B-17G, the "Aluminum Overcast". My father surprised me one morning, he took me out to this airfield in the middle of nowhere and said he had an early bday present, so i was thinking maybe a ride in a Cessna or something, but when i saw the 17 i couldn't believe it. One of the most amazing things i have ever done.

OK, I've uploaded a few of them. I had a digital cam and a disposable so if some of the pics are repeated, its 'cause they were similar shots with two different cam's.
I havent tried embedding them or anything and looks like they uploaded in reverse order but they're here if anyone is interested.

That B-17 and the aircraft in flight on that vid are true works of art, beautiful machines.I was in Toronto a few years ago and went to a aviation museum east of Toronto, don't know exactly ,but this museum was in the process of restoring an Avro Lancanster bomber.I believe it was the all wooden bomber?Correct me if I'm wrong, and if anyone knows of this restoration please pass some info, thanks!
