F-15s over Keflavik base, in the background are a couple of P-3 Orions and some really old Icelandic passangerplane. (BTW one of the Orions is Duch)

On this F-15s left tailfin you can see a really badly drawn map of Iceland.

For a moment there it seemed as if you were being sarcastic, calling our planes 'beautiful' then posting pictures of crash landings. p-)

Like to see more pics on bear and interceptors, or Sukhoi vs. EP-3.

Soviets probed NATO's defences and NATO (in this case USAF....) intercepted and photographed the "intruders"... Also the other way around...

Hmm..I heard about half a year ago that US would take it forces away from Iceland. Did that actually happen? How many ppl/planes were there? (Only number I heard was 4 fighters)

The four F-15s are still in Iceland, but last of the Marines left some time ago.
These were supposed to defend the airport in case of a ground assault...
The Orions have left to the Mediterrainian sea (Sicily I think).
The three Pawehawks are still here but often leave for weeks at a time, along with their Hercules refueling plane.
There are supposed to be around 5000 american soldiers on the base, but few, if actually any, are "front line" warriors. Most of these are aircrews and mechanics along with their families, which are probably counted in this 5000 number.

The current Icelandic government doesn't want them to leave and is begging George Bush to keep them here.
However if they leave, it is probable that Iceland will raise its own standing army. :)

These F-16s replaced the F-15s in Iceland in 97, only to replaced again by F-15s.

Look at the air intakes, and compare to a Delta dart....
I'm quite sure that these are actually daggers.

I stand corrected. Those are indeed Daggers.

I agree with DLodge and Brozozo, after all these years I still like the Phantom. In a way it's like a girlfirend that you wished you had but never did.
