pretty cool and new look!
DO YOU KNOW IF THE INNER MECHANISM AND REIABILITY ARE THE SAME THAN THE COLT`S M4?

H&K has bigger standarts . And also , IMHO H&K produce arms only for military and police use , nt civilian market .

They do produce civilian arms, but unlike other manfacturers they arn't as 'interested' as much in the civilian side of things. :)

Guys, i think that the mechanism is more reliable and also doesnt get dirty nearly as easy as in Colts M4:s as the H&K:s has new (G36 like?) gas system....... ;)

Short-stroke piston gas system ;)

Uninen, why do you always have to use Dark Blue font colour? It's kind of annoying. Maybe just stick to Default (Black) from now on eh?... You don't need to stand out. :|

I usually don't like to agree with Uninen, but I think he's got it right here. ;)

Over on hkpro.com, they said that the HK people at the NRA show stated that it may be for sale to civilians if the semiautomatic ban goes away

I was looking at a semi-auto HK UMP in a gun store last week.

I doubt that HK will miss the US market for AR style weapons.

I shoot an AR style rifle, in competition sometimes, and HK might produce a rifle that would be intersting to this market.

The question is whether it would be CMP authorized in their shoots.

There is semi-automatic "civilized" version of both G36 (as SLR?) and UMP available..... ive seen them both......

XM8 original

I think it is a mixture of both. Maybe it is designed for US Army.

It was actually, according by H&K.... as a interm solution between AR:s (M16 / M4....) and M8.... (until M8 is ready to be deployed.....)

But "He219" already dug up the original topic on this..... go see it, much more good pictures and info in there.... ;)

Yeah SL 8..... the thing is actually G36, in different "clothes" so that it could be sold in Germany, with all the "military things" ripped off from it.... :D

As German gun laws dictate that "civilian fire arm" cant have any "military weapon like" properties or something like that... or was it only that may not have "properties of Bundeswehr service rifle"? :|

This Law has gone so semiauto M-4 or AK are available, but no civil G-36 so far.

OK, I'm now going to ask a question as some one who knows next to bugger all about guns - why would Colt or Armalite (Or whoever it is that actually owns the copyright on the design on the M4) licence it out to HK who must be one of their biggest rivals? Or for that matter, why licence it to Diemako or Bushmaster? Do Colt (Or Armalite, I honestly don't know who) have limited production so they think they'll make more by letting others manufacture them?

First, just to clarify, the Armalite (Eagle Arms) of today has nothing to do with original Armalite.

Here's my guess on the M4, the M16 design belonged to the government. Colt patented the M4 design because it had sufficent unique features that are different from the M16. If you notice, HK calls it the HKM4, not the M4. I'm sure HK patented their HKM4 because of the unique features.

Recently, there were changes in German firearm laws.
The SL-8 now looks like this:

no i think the m4 pattent is there. but the m4 patent only had some things like extended feed ramps but the original m16 pattent is done and run out.

as for hk having better standards. How so? they are just given more money by governments as they seem to be great at kissing a lot of ass with their marketing system. and if you say quality of note is that hk recalled many p2000 delivered to the germn police for problems with thier berrals.

btw, colt had a gas piston upper. the military didnt want it. it kind of pisses me off that they are seemingly considering this just because hk is stamped on the side. for the price it offers very little benefit in reliability(the m4 can shot sometimes well over 1000 many have gone up to 6000) without cleaning and no soldier will fire his weapon that long without cleaning it.

honestly i think hk was just mad because the m4 was dominating the market for le within the us, as the mp5 dies a little more every day only showing lilife for the m4 and their ump is almost nowhere to be seen. their g36 has not been adopted nearly as wide as the m4.

hk has had some great product recently, like the usp, and g36 and ump but i dont think they are better then other companies like styer, colt, fn or sig. if i was to label anyone as the best id probly say fn.
