The book is Battle for the Falklands (1) Land Forces. I think I have a first editon, it a great book with great colour plates.

Here is the cover.

Only one mistake with the plates. In plate G 1 it shows a SLR bayonet instead of a FN-FAL bayonet.

Yes, I have the book - what is the purpose of your post?

He just wanted everyone to know that he's an expert on bayonets. Duh.

Well, actually that looks damned like one of the FAL bayonet types to me, it's nothing like an SLR bayonet, so maybe it's a case of how little he knows about bayonets. rofl

(L-R) Osprey Image, SLR Bayonet, Argie FAL Bayonet). N.B. There is another FAL bayonet type which looks more like an apple corer. The bayonet in the right hand image is clearly that shown in the Osprey illustration.

I'm loving the fact the two Brits have the issue 1980's era moustache.

It differs from the L69A1 due to the coarseness of the hair. The Moustache, Gringo, XL23E1 was only limited SF issue IIRC.

Didn't the XL23E1 droop a little more than the L69A2? I heard that there was also an XL23E2 version strictly for Shaky Boat use only, but that it was sometimes copied by the Mortar Platoon from 3 Para when they were in Village People mode.

I was wondering who else had it. Good book. I don't know that the Argentine FN-FAL bayonet was differant to the Belgian FN-FAL bayonet which is a socket bayonet like the Lee Enfield No4 Mk1 bayonet

The Belgian FN-FAL bayonet

The standard Argentine FN-FAL bayonet as used April-June 1982 was AFAIK as below:

You will not that I did mention the apple-corer bayonet which you have pictured, but I'm not aware of it being used by Argentine - remember that Argentina license produced her own FALs.

BTW - you still haven't told us why you started this thread in the first place.

N.B. - might I refer you to Men-at-arms No.250 - Argentine Forces in The Falklands - which covers Argentine kit in considerable detail.

Herewith the two different styles of load bearing equipment used by Argentine forces in The Falklands in 1982 shown in the Osprey mentioned above - note the bayonets hanging on the belts. That on the leather belt would appear to be the type I pictured above, whilst that on the web belt looks more like the pig-sticker type, this would suggest both types were in use - maybe one of our Argentine members can confirm either way.

hi people, im most reader than poster... but i guess i can help who wants to know what really has an argentina soldier during the war, since the budget for the armed forces was low... (and still very low) so no one can have all the equipment unless the soldier bought his own equipment... and for the collector items i can have some falklands issue if some one are interested... the actual equipment of the argentine armed forces are like US surplus, and some argentine made copies... so if I can help just let me know....

Hahahahahaha. I'd hate to get hit by one of their mortar rounds. Their very presence in the AO should be enough to frighten the enemy from the field.

I know a guy who was there on Mt Longdon, actually not in the mortar platoon, but the likeness is amazing!

Hopefully he doesn't wear the studded motorcycle cap, jacket and matching assless leather chaps.
