I spent four days training with the Army at Fort Bragg, N.C. last week and had a blast. Although I can't talk about a lot of the things I did, I can tell you that I was issued a uniform and attended several briefings, jumped out of an airplane twice with the Golden Knights, fired weapons, ran with the troops and met a lot of great people.

The highlight had to be the two tandem jumps out of a plane at 13,500 feet. The day before, they put me in a wind tunnel so I could learn my body position. It was actually easier skydiving than being in the wind tunnel.

Jumping out of a plane is really weird. You're going 120 miles per hour, but it just feels like you're floating in air. Both jumps were in the morning and I fell the first time, but landed on my feet the second time. Very cool.

I have always said that if I wasn't playing golf for a living, I would be doing something in the military. Probably with the Special Forces. I spent some time with those guys and have great respect for what they do.

I also enjoyed the four-mile runs with the 18th Airborne Corps. It took us about 31 minutes, which is slower than I usually run. The big difference was singing along with the guys. I'm used to running alone with my MP3 player. By the way, we ran in shorts and T-shirts.

Probably the biggest thing that happened is I got to understand exactly what the military does and how important their job is. Most of us take what they do for granted. You can't believe the dedication they have. Most of them are just kids, ages 19 to 23. I felt like one of them, but I was older than most. It's definitely a young man's military.

What really shocked me was the dedication everyone displayed. Just the enthusiasm to serve our country was amazing, everyone from Special Forces to the cook. They are so proud to be serving our country, and we should all be proud of how they represent all of us!

I posted an article awhile back about TW going to Bragg. I thought you guys might find this follow up interesting.
