How soon after the round is dropped into the tube then it's fired? Is is delayed based on a fuse?
How are they cooled off (other than by air?) Are they water jacketted?
How soon after the round is dropped into the tube then it's fired?
When it hits the bottom... bang.
The air in the tube has to ruch past the round as it falls down and as the round is a similar calibre to the tube that slows it down a bit.

The russians have a range of Mortar calibres some are still used others are not used or are only used by some units.
In WWII the common calibres used were 50mm, 82mm, 107mm, 120mm, 160mm, and some very strange huge mortars.
Modern mortars have dropped the 50mm and the 107mm. The 82mm and 120mm seem to be very widely used. There is an automatic 82mm weapon called Vasilek that uses a 4 round clip magazine. There is also the standard drop 82mm and 120mm weapons too. The 160mm weapon is often towed and is popular in mountain fighting and uses a particularly powerful 40kg projectile. The other modern weapon is the vehicle mounted 240mm mortar. Max range in 13km and it has a 130kg HE bomb. Modern Russian light artillery vehicles are now carrying 120mm mortars as main armament and many airborne units also have vehicles with 120mm mortar in turrets. (2S9 Nona).
The Russians have developed a range of laser guided projectiles for most of their mortar rounds and have LG rounds for the 120mm, 160mm and 240mm weapons.

By today, 60mm has replaced 50mm as ("light") mortar calibre, and those 60mm:s are actually quite widely used......

He is not, those are "Charges" are actually "mounted" around the mortar rounds "tail", those things propell the round.

Yup , they take rocks and smash the top of the mortar as hard as they can to see if it will explode , and if it doesn't then they go ahead and see if it works on the enemy rofl

That was definately sarcasm guys, not sure if you picked up on it. ;)

As far as I know the Russian and Soviet armies never used 60mm mortars.
The 50mm mortars have pretty much been replaced by 40mm under barrel weapons, and 30mm automatic weapons... and also RPG rounds and RPO-A rounds of course.
