A toddler has been banned from a North Yorkshire shop for wearing a hoodie.

Two-year-old Jay Cowper was wrapped up against the cold in a brown jacket with a furry hood when he went shopping with his grandfather in York.

Jay was asked to remove his hood by staff at Monkton Road Stores because of a "no hoodie" policy designed to tackle problems with troublemakers.

His grandfather refused out of principle and the pair were forced to leave the store.

'Will not rob'

Jay's grandmother Brenda Cowper branded the decision "ridiculous".

She said: "As soon as he walked in he (the owner) said 'do you mind asking the little boy to take his hood down'.

"My husband looked at him and said 'he is only two-and-a-half, he is not going to rob you'."

"The shop owner said 'well, it's my policy that nobody comes in and gets served with a hood up'.

"So my husband said he would go somewhere else and with that he just walked out."

The owner of Monkton Road Stores said his shop had been a constant target of crime and he could not afford to make any exceptions.

Man, what a rediculous story, but then again, that little gangsta could have been keepin a 9er in his diapers. I am sure he was planning on a big take in that one so he could fund his world wide drug cartel.

Common Sense today is nothing more than an old book title.

The fact that this made it to the media is proof of idiocy.
Who cares.

Better a "no exceptions" policy than not. Let them shop elsewhere.

Yeah, the idea that the grandparents would put stuff in the kids hood is just absurd. We all know old people always obey the laws.

X2. It's a non-issue. If Grandpa really wants to bring his grandson to shop there, opt for a knit-hat instead.

Demanding the hood down was just as ridicilous as refusing to pull the hood down for the duration. It's not like it was attached to his head and he'd need it inside. People make problems out of silly littly things that need not be.

Er, what this article didn't mention was the fact that this shop gets robbed about twice a week. It has no windows; they've been replaced with metal sheets as has the door. He's paranoid as **** and justifiably so!
