Very good job by the police and the General Attorney, if he gets convicted I hope he gets to spend a long time in jail, I bet the criminals that he didn't pardon gonna really like him, especially now when he's a *** offender.

Glad they didn't saved him just because he had a high function.

I didn't hate him, but it was clear he isn't the right candidate.
In general I don't like *** offenders for obvious reasons so if he gets convicted I wish he gets the full jail treatment.

He can pardon prisoners and that's pretty much it. He only has a formal role, like the various kings and queens in Europe.

Whether he's the "right candidate" or not should have no influence on judging his guilt or innocence of a crime. Is that really the opinion you were expressing, or am I misreading what you're actually saying?

Well, at least Israel can take comfort in that the law reaches out to grip the President - unlike some other places close by.

No, I meant that it was clear that he isn't the right candidate when he was chosen (years ago). Shimon Peres was also nominated, but he's a loser, he can't win a single thing (he never won, the best he could do was a tie and that was 15 years ago) so we got this president.
I think that because he's a known public figure and he used his influence and power to rape he should get a tougher sentence and should sit longer than usual in jail for this accusation.

Or even far away, look how Chirac will go down at the end of his mandate, if he hasn't killed the case of course.
Still, the succession of corruption affairs, little arrangements and now this "rape indictiment" are stirring something deep here. Are we on the way to a political deep reform, or serious changes, it still has to be seen, but the results might be surprising.

He's so disgusting, we should send him to spend his jail time in Iran.
Today he blamed the whole world for conspiring against him and he refuses to quit his role. He blamed the police, general attorney, media and he even used the "race" card saying that the media picks on him since he's not Ashkenazi.
After that he kept on telling lies and even questioned the witnesses' testimonies without them having the ability to respond to this accusation.
Apart of in Saddam's trials I have never seen such lack of culture by a politician.

From the information now it is known that around 10 woman were sexsualy abused by him when working with him in the president office.
His "I Accuse" speach lasted over an hour!!!
There was even a part when he burst on a reporter accusing him of beeing a part of the big conspiracy by the media (specialy Israeli channel 2).
Poor Gadi Sokenik... :)

The President also usually stood above the fray that is normal Israeli politics, where even "how are you?" is a debate. Traditionally the pres was apolitical or didn't bring their party affiliation with them.

in politics there are dirty tricks.
when the common citizen's alleged rape is examined by the police to check if is a case of a staged rape or a real one , when we talk at this level we must be very cautious.

The police recommended the General attorney to trial the president for rape and other accusations (long list-one of them is disrupting an investigation), the general attorney accepted the police decision.

i am talking in general not about this case.
Katsav and his wife recently came to Greece on an official visit and left the best of impressions attracting very flattering comments by the media.

There have been a whoe series of ****** assualt charges and rape against relatively high officials in the past few years. Several promising and otherwise accomplished individuals have been put out to pasture as a result. These guys weren't / aren't ****** predators that you wouldn't want living next to you; they're intoxicated by their positions and products of what was an egalitarian and still chauvinist society.
The quintessential Israeli military figure (Moshe Dayan) was reputedly a tireless swordsman, and unashamed of it. Leaving Katsav out of the discussion for a moment, I question whether all of them need to be permanently banished from the political and public arena. Is there such a thing as paying for your crime and being able to start over? In this case I'm thinking of Yitzhak Mordechai specifically.

Ofcourse if they are convicted they should be banished, they are supposed to be a role model.
And anyway, how can the "first citizen" speak like this on the police and the general attorney?

How many countries in the region could initiate such a process involving their Head of State? My comments on the accused, I will wait post after the verdict.
