TIJUANA, Mexico - The police department has issued about 60 slingshots to officers in the violent border city of Tijuana, where soldiers confiscated police weapons two weeks ago on allegations of collusion with drug traffickers.

Municipal police spokesman Fernando Bojorquez said Monday that the slingshots, along with bags of ballbearings, were given to officers patrolling areas of the city visited by tourists.
Tijuana's police force of 2,000 officers has been without guns since Jan. 5, but some patrol alongside armed state police.
President Felipe Calderon sent 3,300 soldiers and federal police to Tijuana at the beginning of January to hunt down drug gangs. The soldiers swept police stations and took officers' guns for inspection amid allegations by federal investigators that a corrupt network of officers supports smugglers who traffic drugs into the U.S. The weapons are still being checked.
About 100 police demonstrated outside Tijuana town hall on Monday demanding the return of their guns. "The arms are our tools for work," said officer Juan Manuel Nieves. "Do they want more police to be killed?"
More than 300 people were slain in Tijuana last year including 13 police officers.

I honestly think that the Airsofters of MP.net could defeat the Tijuana police force. Its a wonder they can get anyone to work that job. They need.........Clint Eastwood as the man with no name!

I think I'd rather buy some really good running shoes, than attempt to have a shoot out with a drug cartel while armed with a slingshot.

I guess it's better then not being armed at all.But the Mexican Federal forces are in the area conducting operations heavily armed.

I think a whistle might be more useful.
"Blow here in the event of an emergency"

Round up about 200 Texans and we'd have enough arms to take Tijuana.

I live here in Tijuana and all i can tell you is that ever since they announce that the FEDERALES where comming to the city the big drug cartel members bail out of the city, they either went to the U.S. or neighbooring States like Sonora.
The federal goverment took away the guns of local police because they where going to run some test on them to see if they were involved in any crimes, and they where goin to check all the records and background of each one of the cops and any corruption accusations against them, since YES theres corruption on the police force theres also a lot of good cops.
The police department was left with out guns to patrol the city!! suposedly the federales where going to back them up but there NOT enogh.
Before one cruiser with go out to check out a emergency call now they have to go in teams of 5 squad cars to check it out and they have no wepons but some stunt guns to take on the bad guys.
The police officers have used what ever thay have to arrest this guys even rocks on the floor to stop them. untill there berretas 9mm and shootguns and m16 ARE RETURN TO THEM.
A way of puting preasure on the federal goverment is to focus attention in there current state,so they decided to bring attention to them by doing this so called sling shoot propaganda.!!!
I as a citizen always talk **** about the local cops but after seen them work this past few weeks with out guns taking on dangerous calls,i have a great deal of respect to them. And the so called operation tijuana by the federal goverment has nothing but failled.
Local small time criminals think its christmas since theres no cops, its like blue light special for them.
Now even locals have taking the law in there hand by arresting criminals and beatting the **** out of them and then turning to the cops since they know the cops carry no wepons.
I hope the cops get there guns soon, since the Tijuana Police department are trying desperatly to maintain a sense of security in this city.
My opinon is that of a resident of this City, and i dont care if you dont agree with it its the truth.
P.S. Ghelp,My friend your note you have there is tottaly wrong, the Police department did NOT buy the slingshoots, the cop carring one, paid for it and they dont work or are intendant to be used as a real weapon ,its only a propaganda symbol, there no such ballbearings, some cops got some murble bags to add to satiric way of protesting,THE SLINGSHOT IS A WAY OF SATIRIC PROTEST, IS NOT GOING TO BE USED AS A WEPON,only a child would belive this story or an ignorant person, the police department has close to 3,300 officers NOT 2,000.

I guess it's not funny for the police. Hopefully they can root out the corruption and get back to providing a safe environment for the citizens when the gun inspections are over.

They could be issued single shot shot guns and a single bullet..like Barney Feife and his pistol. However, part of my survival set is a sling shot and a bag of ball bearings...I know that sounds funny, along side my AK and Mauser and my Mossburg 12 ga....and of course my Tokarov...but, I figure there may some time be a need for something less than totally lethal...but painful. The wrist rocket fits the bill. MM

The mayhem my buddies and I got up to with only ballbearings and wrist rockets as kids...lucky we never got caught.
And the Federales are not a joke.

Does your survival set include having a vehicle as a type of transport. That is one heavy load. What type of food or medical equipment do you have.Is it in a back pack or suit case. Thanks in advance.
