Illegal Weapons imported?
Lethal weapons: DCP Aziz showing the seized firearms during the press conference yesterday. With him are Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hashim Harun (third from right) and district narcotics chief Deputy Supt Azman Shahrin.
LUMUT: Police are investigating how a suspended weapons dealer continued to import state-of-the-art firearms into the country for more than a year via legal means.

The weapons imported from Germany and Austria worth RM900,000 are believed to have been flown into the country and cleared by the Customs. Police want to know how the weapons managed to get past Customs' clearance.

Police made the huge firearms seizure when they were carrying out a drug bust.

The importer's firearms trading licence was suspended by Bukit Aman in 2005, for not declaring the sale and ownership of weapons.

The 3am raid at a house in Taman Venice here last Friday, led to the discovery of 58 weapons comprising five 5.56mm light machine guns, one 5.56mm automatic rifle and 47 self-loading .9mm pistols.

Most were stashed in boxes and bags in a room while five pistols were later seized at an office in Persiaran Lumut Pantai Impian here.

Police also arrested a 29-year-old arms dealer at the house.

He had a licence to trade in firearms in 2003 but we suspended it on Dec 31, 2005, for failing to submit the mandatory annual report on the sale and ownership of weapons to Bukit Aman, Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Aziz Bulat told reporters here yesterday.

He never had the licence to import or to store, and this is a very serious offence.

as illegal ownership of firearms is a capital offense with a mandatory sentence in Malaysia, looks like that bloke will be going for a short walk.

I would keep an eye on Malaysia in the near future (5-10 years). It could be the next Pakistan where religious identity is status quo.
Especially in regards to its neighbors Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.
Indonesia, with a Muslim majority, still stresses nationalism.
Singapore is a porcupine for a reason.
Thailand have issues in the south with Malaysia's complacency in the matter.

My concerns stems from Malaysia's political infrastructure and taking on a Middle Eastern "cargo culture" that is not the norm for the country or the region.
As the Asian paradigm shifts towards China, Malaysia has been increasing its ties with the Middle East on the premise of Islamic identity. In time Malay identity may be superceded to that of Islamic identity. That has already happened in terms of Malaysia's relationship with Israel or lack of relationship solely based on religion not national interests.
Moreover I have issues with its policy of promoting Malays regardless of merit. But that's another issue. (I also have alot a crap to dump on Singapore)
In my opinion I see a train wreck happening in within 20 years. I hope I'm wrong.
the train will wreck if the opposition lead by the fanatical Malaysian Islamic party won. If the current gov still strong ..i doubt Malaysia will venture to the darkside.

99% of all Malaysians I have met are way too laid back to allow things to get that serious.

So are the 99% of Persians I have met as well.
But that does not matter in today's Iran.

The train is already burning with the current government. And with more professionals in the islamist PAS, I would support a moderate Islamic government. There are no 7% property discount and 30% malay equity requirement in Islam. These race based policies are driving a divide between malays and non-malays, and in the long term its the malays who are going to suffer due to complacency.
I do believe a proper Islamic government is way towards reinvigorating our economy. With no race based bs and a heavy hand against corruption, we could catch up to our southern neighbor. Foreign investors wouldn't care about the "Islamic" part if there is more money to be made.

The form of "Islamic government" is just another face of the "race based policies".
And you expect us to believe the Islamist PAS is "moderate" when their party membership only caters to Muslims only and no non-Muslims are not allowed to be leaders ( This came from so called party spiritual leader himself, what an utter nonsense). This really makes the current ruling coalition which is consist of racial based parties with their "race based policies" sounds like heaven. At least we non Muslim/malays have representatives in the Cabinet, and the power sharing within the coalition is working fine although it's not perfect.
Trust me on this we non Muslims will not fall to another ploy, you need our votes to form the government and retain the 2/3 majority in the Parliament. Even for me who's born and raised in one of the "Malay Muslim belt" states, with family deeply ingrained in some Malay culture, PAS does not even interest me even a single atom...unless of course PAS is secularised, and the party constitution is altered to allow it to become relevant to all. Well I really doubt that with their triumphalistic nature of the Islamists. "Ours are always better than theirs".
I adore Turkey and their people. They are great as they are brave enough to unleash themselves from the religious extremism and shows they can be modern without abandoning their religion. A very Fine example how Muslims and Islam can be relevant in this modern age.

Another point to ponder: Well which government in the whole world is perfect anyway?
I love my country and I won't let it fall into some sort of religious dogmatism hellhole. We'd still make an impact to provide check and balance.

I'm not saying the current PAS could pull it off, and I never said that extremist Islam is the way to go. My opinion is that, Islam is the best way to coax malays to give up the NEP which you non-bumis hate so much. And even if you're fine with the current situation, I am not. The race-based policies are going to destroy the malay race in the long run. The only thing is that malays are not whining about it, yet. Non-malays would be able to survive because they are used to it, but they certainly don't like it one bit.
We just need to put a step in the right direction. The most important thing is to get the government to focus on economic progress instead of running a charity for the malays.

Pakistan was even ruled by a woman once. And in these days, a last female minister received death threats and was forced to resign only because a simple hug...
If a people get's careless, the things can turn quickly. Good to hear that the Malaysians wouldn't tolerate such a development.

"Some powers in the region"?
Please define who are they.
some foreign power? its like malaysia couldnt care less what other power think on how malaysian manage their own country. They always doit their own way.
as for hardline islamic.. the current gov have prove that its doing its job to supress it without jeoperdising the integrity of its islamic image.
as for racial or racist problems (which is happening everywhere else in the world)..i dont know. I mean if you are a really good muslim this is not a problem.. since God (Allah) have clearly said that every person (not muslims but person) is equal in front of God and should be treated that way.
