This isnt an official one (I think), but some sniper unit's patch I once saw said "Don't Bother Running, You'll Only Die Tired". Anyone know which unit might use this patch? Or maybe it's just something that sounded cool and istn affliated with a specific unit.

Anyways,

Really? I've never heard of either of those. Silent Professionals usually refers to anybody that doesn't sit there and brag about their accomplishments. Speed, Surprise, and violence of action is like a saying for CQB.

True, as the "Speed, Surprise, and violence of action" motto was adopted by some LE units, but SFOD-D was founded on the basis of CT, which initially focused a lot on CQB hostage rescue. I can't recall where I read that it was a motto adopted by them, it was either Haney's or Bowden's book, or some random book out there I read years ago.

I love "who dares wins." For some reason, it always reminds me of when I play blackjack at a casino. You always have to bet alot of money in order to win alot of money. That analogy hardly does justice to those brave souls and I don't think I'm coming across too well.

And with Delta's status being what it is, whatever "unofficial" slogan you may have heard can also be disregarded.

Good looking out on the 160th correction. Thanks. The US Army says 'we own the night' because of our night vision capabilities in conjunction with all the infra red aiming lasers such as the AN/PAQ-4 and the AN/PEQ-2A. Hell ,even our cooks get night vision goggles.

Maybe I'm getting this thread confused with unit motto's in general. There are official unit motto's and there are unofficial motto's. I guess we're supposed to be talking about the latin title's for the unit's?

Yeah, "Silent Professionals" sounds better and most men of the Special Forces (Green Berets) despise this designation, but it was officially changed to "Quiet Professionals" long time ago by a past General. p-)

FYI, I have this from Robin Moore. He's the renowned Author of the Books "The Green Berets", "The Hunt For Bin Laden" and "Hunting Down Saddam".

In his Book "The Hunt For Bin Laden" he writes:
"The Special Forces soldiers are touted as the "silent professionals." Officially that description was changed long ago to the "quiet professionals" by a past general. It was a general officer initiative to tone down their Rambo/SnakeEater image and bring them more into the fold of the conventional Army. But most of the men of Special Forces despised this designation ..."

Very interesting, thx for the contribution.
You've gotta love the ARMY SF community and their relentless attempts (where they succeed more often than not) to seperate themselves from the 2-dimensional and unimaginative-ness of the Conventional Army, tow the company line way of thinking. I like "Quiet Professionals" better anyways.

Translations for the French motos :

1 RPIMa : qui ose gagne -> who dares wins
CPA 10 : sicut aquila (sorry I don't know Latin)

Also
