Italy was interested in P8 for the replaceing of the Br1150 Atlantic, but it's too big for us and too expensive! We have to patrol the mediterranean sea not the Ocean!

Maintenance of the P-3 ORION fleet is expensive and the P-8A choice is politico-economic !
Wait and see !

P-8A has such a small MAD device comparing to P-3C

MAD is not the answer.
Active and passive means (FLIR, RADAR, DICASS, JEZ and optic watch) are enough, the usual range on small SSK (as an iranian KILO :) ) is tiny.
I can't of course tell more cause this range depends on the sub course and depth.

Growth areas = extra room for sleeping bags.
Given that there will be air to air refueling, you could carry two sets of crews for double shifts on long patrols.
Moreover the P-8 could transport its own ground maintenance crew to a forward deployed site with spare parts. Thus no need for a cargo aircraft.
Or to any civilian airport as a means to obtain spare parts from the civilian airlines.
It looks like they taken alot of the same interior layout from the Nimrod.
