I tried to embed this video, don't know if it worked. If not here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJEMYNUpCyQ&eurl=

Embed or not, these people are f***ed. How do they expect to be taken seriously? It seems like they are more concerned with garnering attention than actually "bringing the troops home". My 2 cents.

hehehe...that was amusing as hell!

I liked the Bush oil head thingy, that was pretty cool actually. But I'm sorry...that was a weak protest showing, those people call themselves hippies?! That was retirees singing out of tune and college co-eds trying to get laid in "peace circles"; I'm wearing khakis and a dress shirt and I could coach them to put on a better show than that.

For the record, I recommend you all attend at least one hippie event in your lifetime, no need to participate, just watch, it's great stuff. I accidently stumbled into the international rythm festival (Read: everyone beats bongos in a circle and smokes weed) in Seattle one year and ended up spending most of my time there instead of the science center where we had planned on going.

Not a bad gig if you ask me. The younger kids get to bang bongos and dance and do drugs, and all the old hipsters get to sing old hippie songs and pretend it's still the 60s. Sure beats a real jobp-)

But seriously, those guys are a bunch of clowns.

Ahhh, home. And all the quirks that come with it.

They don't really want things to change. They're too comfortable.

Pfft.. Those idiots were in DC in 1999 on the 4th of July. They were protesting pot laws and Clinton's inablity to help the poor Iraqi Shiites. Lots of skunk in the air, chants of the capitalist pig regime, Wag the Dog signs and smelly hippies with dreds. Ohh and a Rasta man running about with a flag trying to sell you a bottle of water with a dime inside. The fireworks from the top step of the Lincoln Memorial were awsome though.

I don't think anyone here is disputing their right. If they want to act like retards, then they are more than welcome.p-)

It's my right to call them out as damn pot smoking, anarchist socialist hippy, Hanoi Jane fans that ruined my pleasant trip to DC on the 4th of July in the year 1999. Those are the same people in the vid, if your location is correct then more power to ya.

The group ANSWER that buys most of those permits has relations with North Korea and is headed by Ramsey Clarke - Saddam's Lawyer. And you wonder why so many Americans see these people as a joke?

I think comedian Patton Oswald said it best when describing anti war protestors

i hate empty gestures at protests;
(hippies)"lets make the biggest finger painting in history, that will stop the war!
(Patton Oswald) No It wont!

I always find that it is only the privileged upper class kids who don't have to work that can give them selves the luxury to go to these protests and act like idiots . most regular young people either have to work or have other more pressing concerns .

Well while you may not like Ramsay Clarke, (I dont really know what the guy's about other than that he was the former AG) please don't dis him for being Saddam's lawyer.

Everyone, *even* Saddam, has a right to legal representation. I've represented some pretty ordinary clients, does not mean that I too am despicable, but, just part of the justice system.

They get to put their side, as does the government or the people, and both have lawyers. Its unfair to identify the lawyer with the client. The whole system breaks down if I decide to tank cases or not represent people just because of what I think of them, its not up to me to decide, its up to the Court. If it were up to the lawyers, you would not need courts - just send em to the lawyers who can decide whether they like em or not.

You have to "garner attention" in order to be heard. DUH

Though I'm no hippy... I do believe most of us want the troops home asap.

I think what he means is attention to themselves and not the cause that they espouse.

We've got a similar sitution back at my HOR. Professional protestors who come out of the woodwork for any and all causes. (Save the whales, ban Wal-Mart, shutdown the "factory for goos stepping nazis" - our local NG armory actually, stop the guy with too many Christmas lights, etc. etc. etc. They write endless letters to the editor, pop up at every rally and protest in the near vacinity. The badge of honor for these folks is to make it to Cuba to protest the US or have a "peace conference". That leads to full page newspaper spreads and other adulation.

Gotta love the drum circles and the random carnival acts.

Quick! Someone make it to the stage and put the deathmetal tape in!

Hippies are all right, they'll usually smoke you out while yammering.
And the chicks look great, but smell kinda funky under the patcholie...and they have dirty feet/ankles.

My first wife was a hippie.

That error has been corrected.

The majority of them are harmless, and thankfully dying out...as the boomers age, they are dropping off the radar, the "radicals" have pretty much burned out already, and the "next gen" hippies are really into the "look" of the whole thing, but their politics are usually pretty shallow.
*shrug*

God bless America and the right to assemble...even if you just look silly doing it.

yeah, I counted about 100,000 protester's there, so the media says. They would probably get more response form the government if their signs read, "Bring the troops home now...win the war!" But I guess it does not matter that heads are gettng cut off.....etc.etc.

We have an all volunteer military in this country. I think they should start protesting if that ever changes and they are eligible for the draft.

I heard over 100,000 attended from CBS evening news and "tens of thousands" from ABC radio. I did not see enough video to support either. I would say about 5,000 - 10,000. Mostly aged though. Wierd way to run out the clock.

The weird outfits and signs are cute, but makes them look like they are outlandish eccentrics, looking for a cause, rather than a reflection of mainstream attitudes.

This is the professional protest crowd. If it wasn't about Iraq, it would be about something else.

So let me get this straight, this was a protest of the war and the govt I assume and they get their points across by having a bunch of jesters on stilts and obvious pot heads as the fore runners of the protest?

I wonder why nobody listens to them
