Jail loos turned from East
By JAMIE PYATT
JAIL bosses are rebuilding toilets so Muslim inmates don’t have to use them while facing Mecca. Thousands of pounds of taxpayers money are being spent to ensure lags are not offended.
The Islamic religion prohibits Muslims from facing or turning their backs on the Kiblah — the direction of prayer — when they visit the lav.
Muslim lags claimed they have had to sit sideways on prison WCs.
But after pressure from faith leaders the Home Office has agreed to turn the existing toilets 90 degrees at HMP Brixton in London.
The Home Office refused to reveal the cost of the new facilities — part of an “on-going refurbishment”.
One Muslim former inmate said: “The least the Prison Service can do is make sure people can practise their religion correctly in prison.”
But a Brixton jail officer said: “If they didn’t get locked up for committing crime they would not have this problem. Yet we have to sort out their loos. If we weren’t paying for it as taxpayers I’d laugh my socks off.”
Around a quarter of prisoners at the Category B jail are Muslims.
Labour MP Khalid Mahmood said: “As far as I understand this rule only applies in a place of worship.”
Tory MP Ann Widdecombe said: “Some common sense needs to be applied.”

Good to see that British are bending over backwards to appease the Muslims as much as possible!

Considering that you need 3 coordinates in space to locate Mecca from the UK in is a physical impossibility to face Mecca whilst having a dump. The flat earth principle was discarded a few years ago I’m reliably informed. p-) Blue Peter says so.

I'm just curious, if a Muslim is on the exact opposite side of the Earth as Mecca, which direction does he face to pray?

Blue Peter is wrong. From any point of the Earth you can face any other, even when the Earth is round. But i'm sure accuracy varies :)

This muslim belief only makes sense if the Earth is flat. But it is round, so every time they face Mecca, their behind ALSO faces mecca.

That’s if the builders had used their plumb-lines to build the bogs off the UK vertical. ;-)

True. And that is the very sad reality, that, that is what it takes to get government to move. If any other group threatened the same thing, they would be arrested, outlawed, and/or politically destroyed in the media.
What bothers me most is this mentality that we should or must bend over backwards because there is a perceived threat from Muslims, that if we don't cater to every demand or possible offense, significant numbers of Muslims will become violent. That kind of thinking and the actions it produces only encourages those who are willing to strap bombs to their chests and cut off other's heads. It effectively gives them the power to mold our societies to their wishes.

Wouldn't they be facing outer space either way?
On a side note, Mecca was originally supposed to be Jerusalem but the jews weren't buying it.

The history of Islam centers around one person, Muhammad (also spelled Muhammed or Mohammed). He was born around 570 A.D. and was raised by his extended family after the death of his parents. As he grew, he became dissatisfied with polytheism and came to believe in one God, Allah. He began to have religious visions around age 40. During these visions, Muhammad would receive "messages" or "revelations" from Allah. He would memorize them and teach them to his followers. These visions are now recorded in the Qur'an (or Koran). Muhammad continued to receive these visions and messages until his death in 632 A.D.
Muhammad's new faith was not widely accepted in his hometown of Mecca. Therefore, he and his followers moved to Medina which means "City of the Prophet". This movement is known as the Hijirat or "the flight". It marks the turning point in Islam and serves as the beginning date on Islamic calendars.
At first, Muhammad was sympathetic to both Christians and Jews, but after their rejection of his teaching, he turned from Jerusalem as the center of worship for Islam to Mecca. He realized he must return to Mecca, and he did, conquering the city. Islam quickly spread throughout the area.

inmates in the UK should demand religious rigth that requires the toilets to be unobstructed by bars or walls or guards. also religion requires the prison to be let inmates go to their outside homes to use the toilet and go to a bar afterwards.

Ive been an muslim all my life, I have a muslim family and acquaintances. Yet Ive never heard of this my entire life. You seriously have to be an academic **** to do a thing like that. I dont understand why british authorities always have to speak with radical so called representatives of muslims. it truly pisses me off...

According to Mohhamed's OWN admission he was living in caves and hearing voices. They drove him to the brink of suicide untill one of the voices claimed to be the angel Gabriel.
Now ask any shrink to analyse this.

Whites: Cow-tow to us or we will....uh, quit sending you campaign contributions!
Blacks: Cow-tow to us or we will call you a racist!
Mexicans: Cow-tow to us or we will quit picking your strawberries!
Muslims: Cow-tow to us or we will rise up in our billion numbers as one and cut all your God-da**ed heads off!
Now...tell me, who do you think the politicians are going to listen to first? Hmmmmm? MM

So what if you are a muslim astronaut ?
You are constantly moving, so you may by mistake take a dump with your cheeks facing east. But wait a minute where is east, when your in space ??
Believe it or not , there was a conference in Singapore I believe a while ago, with people trying to figure those questions out.

There's another problem, how can you keep your position while praying in 0 gravity? Muslims also need to pray in certain times, but in space you don't go by earth time, Astronauts see many sunsets in 24 hours, so how can they know when to pray?

.... oops. I mean because of the oppression and discrimination muslims face in this country and around the developed world, it would be very difficult for them to get into any country's space program to be an astronaut.
