In part 5 at around 1min the ex-delta guy states that within a very short time of the first blackhawk going down they had about 30 soldiers guarding the crash site. One or two of these came from the little bird that landed and the rest came from CSAR team.
I was under the impression that the CSAR team was smaller than that, did they have two choppers doing CSAR or what?

If I remember right, the CSAR team had about 12 guys, maybe even a few more. I'd have to check the book "The Battle for Mogadishu" as several of the guys who wrote chapters for that book were on that helicopter. I know it was pretty overloaded.
Also, as far as the rest of the guys guarding, don't forget that one of the chalks went by foot to the crash site pretty quickly. I think it was Lt. Perino's (Sp?). In the movie it was Eversmann, but in reality he was part of the convoy. A chalk plus the Csar would be close to 30 guys.

great documentary, just as the author "bowden" said, "what would we do if a foreign army would insert troops in Denver to capture and kill people, everybody would join in and shoot the invadors" ... natural response.
Anyway those rangers only did their job, Kudos to them and **** the politicians who got them into that mess.

IIRC in the book BH down there was one CSAR bird in the air durin the op... as the gnral stated they never assumed two birds would be shot down.

you're misinformed. IT was the TV that got the troops into Somalia and it was the TV that got them out.... when the famine showed the american people, quite rightly, wanted to have somethign done about it. When American bodies were dragged through the capital US citizens demanded the troops home.

I remember seeing all those pics and vids of starving Somali childrens and the public was pretty upset.
Bush senior didn't want US troops to use as peacekeepers too. He also didn't want the US to be longer then we had to. When Clinton came in the UN set forth a new mandate for Somalia. They wanted Somalia to have a stable government and eliminate the warlords influence. The mandate was unrealistic.

What I usually do is pause it once it's started loading and wait for it to finish then watch the whole lot in one go.

Yep, I totally agree with you, pause the video for a few moment, then played and with a cool drink and a popcorn enjoy the images. For the people who want to download any video from youtube with mozzila firefox, there is a little window on the rigth bottom of the firefox navigator who aloud you to download the video. Then you rename the video ( anyname.flv) So you need a FLV player ( Like Riva Player ) and then you can convert it in any media player.

While I was back home last week I met this guy who claimed to be US ex-mil. He married a cousin of mine a few years back when they met in Saudi Arabia. He has a business there in SA and his stepsons (my nephews) say he runs a store that sells ice water and ice blocks. His name is Bernie. He's about 5'4", wears glasses, has a mustache, built like a spark plug and walks with a limp.
He claimed to be airborne but didn't specify if he was 82nd or 101st (only 2 numbers that I can associate the word "airborne" with). He also claimed he and his unit participated in Urgent Fury and Just Cause.
But he also claimed to have participated in Gothic Serpent. Any truth to this? All I've ever read on here and in other sites were that the only troops who had a hand in this Op were Delta, Rangers, SOAR, SEALs, and some PJs.
Thanks.

The US Army also has the 173th Airborne. As far as I know Rangers jumped in the Grenada invasion, not sure about Just Cause...
I'll ask on Shadow.

Sure they did, on the Rio Hato and Panama City airfields (see http://www.suasponte.com/m_panama.htm for instance). They also jumped in Afghanistan at the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom but this everyone knows I guess.
