View Full Version : Is this true? (Yes another Mid-east topic)
http://www.*******.com/newsArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=ESF0KUVAV05BACRBAELCFFA?type=worldNews&storyID=4908944
I really don't know whether to believe it or not, and I'm not as stupid to think this is common practise, but even when it's just a rare case it's still very bad PR. :| Anyone can give me some insight if this is propaganda or fact?

Yes, this story is true. It doesn't smell very kosher.

What do you expect? The longer this conflict lasts, the more ugly both sides behave.

Really don't know this case . The geep (Sufa M240 ) has very limited place inside , and many times arrestants and wounded soldiers tied on the capot of the car , and transformed (perhaps later i would post the picture ) .
But if the border Policemen were fooling around , i am shure that the Police Investigation department would now clearly what to do with this case .
Perhaps it's just some white lie ... Who knows .

I will try to find other sources, hopefully they will have a better explanation. (maybe they just caught him and tied him to the jeep, without using him as a "shield"...)
If the story is true, as it is told by the Paletinians and the BBC then it should not be ignored by the MP.
Since there are no actual photos of the boy tied to the jeep as they are driving it, with him actually shielding them I guess the story is false. (knowing the "common" soldier and the "common" Palestinian)
Then again, I'll try to find other sources.

The only thing related to that was published this morning: An Israeli officer told about the new "fashion" of Palestinians carrying school kids as shields. (every person with a weapon also carry a child under his arm for protection)
Maybe both are part of PR ping pong :cantbeli:

I did see something about this in the papers, it had a close up pic showing the boy tied to the window-mesh, the papers were claiming that it was done to deter the kids from throwing rocks at the vehicles. There was also a short passage about the boy's father's feelings upon seeing his son tied to the vehicle.
I'd like to stay neutral on this topic, but I personally think it was just a bad choice of "position" to tie the boy to.

Yes, agree on that 100 %. The Israelis can't be allowed to give away propaganda-oportunities to the Palestinians.
And even if the boy had been used as a shield, I truly belive that the court juridical system in Israel would have fallen upon those Police officers like a ton of bricks.

Yes it is true. An israeli pro-peace rabi that was protesting the building of the wall, together with other pacificts, was also arrested when he went to the troops to complain about the use of the 13 yr old as a human shield. The rabi then commented on TV that the kid was tied to the car, and very scared. I saw it on the spanish afternoon news of TVE.

Honestly, it doesn't look too bad to me. If those policemen were placing the kid in harm's way that's one thing. If he had nothing to to with stonethrowers at all, it would be entirely wrong. If the kid put himself in harm's way, then I see it as a totally separate issue.
If the policemen ended up driving around the occupied territories with the kid on the hood to protect them from rocks being thrown, then it would be totally out of line.
I see a juvenile palestinian detained on the hood of a jeep. Nothing else.
Mohammed later told the ******* news agency: "I was scared when they got me at first, I thought they would put me in prison. I was scared a stone would hit me."
The question is, Was he throwing stones himself?

The part about throwing stones was not mentioned, they only aired the photos, and an interview with the rabi and the kid. The rabi clearly states that the policemen were using the kid as a shield, and that they arrested him when he protested, but I can`t corroborate the information said by the rabi.
If I see more news on this, I place a link.

I would be i you could proove me any kind of wrong doing, and then I would have to check it in frot of my daily "get pissed " scale, wich means, how many kurds died in ftont of Syrians weapons, how many north koreans, died of lack of apropriate health care, what is the reward of the ball less spain gov for pulling out of irak.
Waiting fr that, let`s wait for the enquirery, and let me do my ob (temporatry),mske sure that no MOFO with a 40lbs bomb finds, its way to my favorite bar.

The incident is under investigation by israeli authorities. According to Israeli law, it is ilegal to use human shields.

It sounds and frankly looks like a very logical explanation. The kid doesn't exactly appear to be harmed or even frightened in that pic. The vehicle is stationary and he's being detained.

I'm inclined to believe Citizen-K on this one, although obviously outrageous behaviour is the norm when there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Anyone who is served in the armed forces is probably ashamed of some behaviour in the past.
