I have a question for those who collect as well as shoot:
If you could choose 5 firearms to "round out" your collection, what would they be?
My choices would be:
1> M1 Garand
2>C96 Mauser Broomhandle (complete w/ stock)
3>Naval Lugar (I've already got the standard and artillery models)
4> Walther P38
5> WWII era 1911A1
I's also love to have a 1917 (Winchester or Remington), a Martini-Henry, an M14 (or M1A), an AK-74.........
(yeah, I know you have nearly all of those, Hollis!)
Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread with this question. Perhaps I should have started a new one.
Edit- I have mate- cool idea

Gaijin
Thought I'd move your post to start a new thread. Any posts involving XM-8s, SCARs or whatever will be deleted. I think 'classic' should be the order of the day here.
Me?
Chinese C96 copy in .45ACP
Owen 9mm SMG in jungle colours
Bergmann MP-18
Tokarev SVT40
K43 with four power ZF-4
Boyes .55 Anti Tank Rifle

Nice pair of Walthers, Seraphim!
I remember back in 1985, I passed up a wartime P38 with matching #s for $200. It was just a couple of days before I shipped out for bootcamp, and had too much else to worry about.
Little did I know how much the value of those would skyrocket......

Sturmgewehr 43/44.
M1D Garand
MG34
Lee-Enfield SMLE
EM-2
An FG42 might have to be thrown in there, one of the first versions though, with the angled pistol grip.
I want accessories too. Lafette for the '34 plus top cover for the double drum magazine, ZF-4 and mount for the StG and FG42.

Oh God yeah, an FG-42 would rock. Anyone got the story on that angled pistolgrip? Or fired one?
Hydro

It's supposedly like that so it would be easier to fire downward when descending with the 'chute. Looks weird, but at the same time it looks oddly comfortable for normal use.

This is a bad thread, I can't think of just 5 firearms! There's loads of oddities and prototypes I want. Like the 4.85mm XL64E1, the SA80 before it got buggered.

Gaijin. Almost traded for a Henri Martini long ago. Been thinking of buying one, but a well turned SR25, has caught my eye... or a socom 16 (like I need another M1A1, especially one that is not fully grown).
I guess the ones I would like to have would require class III stamps, but would be way too expensive. I am sort of a cheap collector.
Other fire arm I have been looking at, and hoping the price will drop is a Burnside carbine, in very nice condition and with some history.
chops SVT40's are very nice indeed. I made a gas regulator tool for mine (a needed tool when shooting cheap surplus). Also Numrich has Taiwanese copy mags under $50, but needs to be fitted.
I think what really discouraged me on collecting and infact I reduced my collection after going there was the Cody Museum in Wyoming. It is easy a three day visit. They had walls of Henry rifles, Amazing collection, wheel locks, everything.

Baker Rifle
De Lisle Commando Carbine
SOE Sleeve Gun (Can't remember its real name)
Knocke Volley Gun
Civil War era musket (English Civil War)
Bit of a blackpowder and silenced theme but their you go (I'm pretty sure you could own any of them legally without a section five FAC in the UK apart from the sleeve gun but they are all quite rare now.)

For me, the biggest challenge is limiting it to just five.
Hollis, why did the museum visit discourage you from collecting?
My uncle has a Burnside. He lives just down the road from you, in Albany.

Neat, Well...... it had firearms and more firearms and more and more, seriously figure 2 - 3 days touring just the firearm museum. My collection looked like a grain of sand compared to Everest.
But I am ok, now, I have been picking up a few here and there. I think a Stoner SR25 maybe next.

One thing I like about old military guns is imagining where the weapon served, and what kind of history it was a part of.
Was this M1 Garand on Tarawa?
Did this Enfield serve on the Northwest Frontier?
Was the Martini-Henry in South Africa or Afghanistan?
Was the L1A1 in the Falklands or Northern Ireland?
Who carried it?
