does anyone know why/ or what SEAL team wears those Pirate patches? i gotta admit, i think they're pretty badass ;)

Well, it looks like that action figure is modeled after the guy in the original picture. The patches are not issued but platoons will make their own "logo" like ODA's will make hats with their ODA number and "logo".

I believe they chose this patch because of the units mission. They are ship raiders. They board ships and take control of them, hence the pirate patch.

He's a member of seal team six. The patch shows which assault group he's a member of .... This guy is a member of "the Pirates".. Chuck Pfarrer talks beliefly about some of the group names in his book "Warrior Soul" Pfarrer's group was called the "Rastas" ...

It's actually a Calico Jack Pirate Patch. Not a Jolly Roger as some have stated elsewhere...

Bio:

John Rackham is also known as "Calico Jack" by many due to his preference for calico coats and britches.

Though not among the most notorious pirates of the seas, he is most renown for his association with Anne Bonny
and Mary Read, the world’s best known female pirates.

Rackham acquired command of his ship the Treasure through the incompetence of its former leader, captain Vane,
in neglecting to attack a auspicious French man-of-war, to the dismay of its crew.

Rackham’s protest towards the decision won him the support of the crew, who put Vane to the vote, and ultimately deposing him of command.

In this way, the former quartermaster of Vane’s vessel, became its captain, and Vane was cast off on a smaller sloop with the
members of the crew who had voted against Rackham.

Eventually, Rackham turned over control of his ship to the two female pirates Mary Read, and Anne Bonny, the latter of which he had

It's the same patch, just flipped...see the crack on the side of the skull on your pic ? Now look at the eBay one...It's on the other side. Like this...

The lines are finer, the grey areas are either absent or different, the distance from the border of the patch is smaller.

Definately from a different production, although both are based on the classical Jack Rackhawm flag.
