I know a lot of people do airsoft, and I see them with full tactical gear, helmets and all. So do yu actually need all that stuff, for protection? I only have a small airsoft pistol that shoots little yellow balls, but its doesnt shot very hard or far at all. How powerfull are these M16's I see on here? Harder than a paintball gun?

My HK G36C/K by TM makes it up to 420 feet per second using 0.23g pellets.

Generally, the tactical gear is absolutely unnecessary, it is just for 'reality' purposes.

I'd say anywhere from 280-340fps (stock) are how powerful most guns are.

No, airsoft does not carry the knetic energy of a paintball, but that doesnt mean it doesnt hurt when your not expecting it/shot up close. Most guns come "stock" around 275-300fps, while there is lots of parts on the aftermarket to help it shoot fasters/harder/farther is a trade off for reliablity.

As for gear, it is up to you. Some people just use a single "high capacity" mag, while others use "standard" spring fed magazines. The more you use the standard magazines, the more you are going to have to rely on a tac vest/belt system/dump pouch. If you are a newer player, that might break the budget, so its really about how much you want to get into it.

I'd say the stock average is 260 ish to 340 ish. As for upgraded i have no clue. I would venture to guess at around 350 ish all the way to around 420.

Average are below 400 fps on a .2 g bb. Upwards to 620 fps if modified with spring of 150-160 and STU gears, strictly for sniping only.

280 - 350.

Here in Norway (which is the worlds biggest country...or not) the general rule is 300 max indoor, 350 max outdoor (full auto) 450 for semi and 550 for bolt.

When you play Airsoft you know what you risk...
The most gear is for posing and has absolutely no reason...

There are some powerful guns....for example the gas sniper....they shoot 2-3 Joule...but you won't find them often because they are expensive and only for "pro's".
