I believe the guy in green (left) lost his leg.
:-(

The two pilots ejected safely before the jet plunged into the ocean. They were both pulled from the frigid water by two rescue swimmers.

When the wire snapped back, it injured six crew members. Three had to be airlifted to shore, including one sailor whose leg was severed below the knee ..

Yeah, he most definately lost something there. You can see something green unattaching and hitting the deck. Ouch.

Yeah... there are a lot of dangers on a ship that you wouldn't really think of. Gotta be real alert. A similiar incident to this one is when the synthetic lines snap... those have HUGE amounts of energy behind them. There's always a few synethic line snapback accidents a year.

They would have us watch the line handling videos once a year. Same old one from the 1960's. Cables were my worst fear. Especially during underway replenishment.

Was that the oldschool one with the dummies on the deck? "Snapback!" and the dummies get smashed by the lines. Good video, needs to be updated though.

WOW looking back at that video this guy must realize how lucky he is with his reflexes especially after what happened to the other guys.

I think everyone whose been to sea has seen the "Snapback!" video. Drives the point home to the point where I still watch out for cables under tension in my current job.

Got that right mate, I try to avoid getting caught in the bite of a power cable or even straddle any line.
Old habits and all that.
