Norway Follows the Lead of Leaving Spain

Politics: 22 April 2004, Thursday.
Norway is the next coalition country to leave Iraq before June 30.

According to Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen, his country sees as priority the peacekeeping mission of its troops in Afghanistan.

Since Spain announced that it would pull out its 1,400 troops, Honduras, with 368, and the Dominican Republic, with 302, have also decided to withdraw their soldiers.

Meanwhile, Thailand's prime minister said his country would withdraw its non-combat troops from Iraq if they were attacked.

US Secretary of State Colin Powell has made phone calls this week to try to hold the rest of the 20-some coalition intact.

Norway has 150 Soldiers there.

Thailand said it will pull out if it gets worse, that means they will pull out very soon.

To clarify, Norway pulls out due to the fact that the UN requested that we send troops to Sudan and Afgahnistan instead.

Norway is not that big a country, cant afford to have troops in all the places.

Ummmm HELEX you do realise Norway was slatted to pull out of Iraq LONG before Spain decided to. It was in the agreement when they sent their troops to Iraq. This thing is not uncommon and it is not a shift in Norway's policy. :bash:

Ummmmm asshole don't pretend that you aren't just making this thread as part of your anti coalition/ anti American efforts online. I love how you draw your own conclusions about how events will unfold in a country you've never been to. You're such a **** stain.

Guys 150 men rotating out makes no difference to the big picture, not even 1000 leaving makes a difference,1000 men is approximately a Battalions worth( slightly more) but it has no significant effect on the comabt effectiveness to the Coalition as it stands.

What would make a difference to the infrastructure is the amount of civil administrators if the same numbers were to pull out on a regular basis.

Exactly. And Norway want at this time to use their forces elsewhere.
But don't worry. We'll be back, hopefully in greater numbers. (Just need to get out of Kosovo first.)

Well, regardless of what it means, it cannot be good. We need as many "international faces" as we can get to help portray the image that this is not simply an American "occupation." The Bush Admin. needs to get more nations on board some how and get the UN in Iraq as fast as he can.
