My first OEF deployment we took akios, over whites, and snow shoes. We never used any of it but it was good to have just in case.

My son deployed with 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines to Afghanistan during the winter months of 04-05. They faced snow conditions at various times throughout their AO, which included Kunar Province, Nuristan and other areas along the Northeastern Afghan-Pakistan border.
Of course, to my knowledge they were never issues winter white parkas or snowsuits.

Thanks CMN (and Szr)... my mental image was very different from this... I think I like the German snow camo better (black "splotches") and the French (see the link I put up for Arctic Warfare pics)

I think I like the German snow camo better (black "splotches") and the French (see the link I put up for Arctic Warfare pics)It looks to me like this camo is designed to blend in more with both snow in direct sunlight (bright white) and that's shaded slightly (blue-gray). For example, it looks like it would do quite well in the paths beaten in the direction of their targets.

I seem to remember, in the early '80's when I was in, that if a conflict happens in Europe, the Marine Corp and BRM were charted for Norway's defense.
As for the winter pattern I like it. Is the suit a two piece or one overall?

I'm not sure about the USMC, but the Dutch and British Marines (RNLMC and RMC) were indeed stationed in Norway for the defense of the northern front.
Thanks for the people who uploaded it! I love this camo. It looks like it will blend in very well with rough snow.

Camo is great, what f... is diferenc were is deployment, good soldiers must have experienc in all weather conditions and if u can survive in winter conditions. it makes u better just new skills...Actualy Ihate winter, but if we have camo like this I would be glad to wear it, I like american suport and logistic, they are working for soldiers, maybe I am wrong...

The $420 million worth of Marine gear that can outfit up to 17,000 Marines at once or 13,000 Marines for a month. The list of equipment is impressive: 7,000 tons of ground and aviation ammunition, 1,000 vehicles, 40,000 cases of rations and 18 Howitzers. The NALMEB does not preposition armor assets due to Norway's policy on "non-provocation" and the Conventional Forces Europe (CFE) treaty. The storage comes with a $12.2 million price tag. For that money, the equipment is stored in 80,000 square meters of climate-controlled caves, kept at 55 percent humidity at 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and protected by electronic security and guards.

How come they are not wearing vests? Any drawbacks to wearing a vest in cold temps maybe?

they are tight, heavy so they make you sweat (therefore freaze your ass off faster) and not all exercises require wearing a vest, unless you talking about load bearing vest in which case it still applies

Vests make you sweat more, which freezes when you stop moving.
Also the buckles become dificult to open whilst wearing mitts where as the single belt buckle is easier (but still difficult) to open.
p.s. my experiences are with British kit and not the US stuff so i maybe talking out of my arse.
