Sweet. A little info on the Cdn Pathfinders? Are they similar to US Army Rangers? UK Para Regt "pathfinders" (I forget if that's their name).

What is their parent unit, if any? How big are they? Are their helos organic? Do they all train for airborne and water insertion, or do they have a "boat troop" "air troop" kinda organization?

thanks in advance.

Well. They are what is in a sense left over from the Canadian Airborne Regiment. There is no Pathfinder unit in Canada. There is the school and they are employed within the Battalions and especially the Jump Companys.
They are similar to the Brit Paras Pathfinders. It is a brutal course, very hard physically and mentally.

So they are sent back tho their parent units and act like scouts/recce for their unit? Like a Company scout? battalion? I'm a bit confused now... it looked like they were operating in larg-ish units in the vid, but maybe that was just the training... anyone enlighten me?

Ok,
Back when we had the Canadian Airborne Regiment... The Pathfinders would jump in early. Set up the DZ, they would also move to whatever objective the main force was going to and set up the Objective rendez vous, the waiting areas, the Line of departure and the attack line. They would have up to date, real time intelligence on the objective and the enemy.
Much like what Recce, or scouts as you called them do for non jump units.
THe thing about Pathfinders, is they are often dropped in by Halo, sub, whatever, in the middle of enemy territory, before the main body comes. WHere as Recce will do the same but the will use different insertion methods and usually start from friendly lines and move toward the objective, instead of parachuting into it.
Basically the Pathfiders are Recce patrolman on steroids. At the moment, in the conventional army, there is no organized pathfinder platoon anymore. However some of the Recce platoons have Pathfinders in them.
It is just a useful and great course to have.

We Should Have A Pathfinder Platoon. We Got JTF2 In CSOR .There IS Room For A Pathfinder Platoon. A Platoon Is Only 30 to 40 Men.

While this is a little off topic, anyone know the status of the proposed new Airborne Regiment (becuase we all know that nasty ole CAR won't be coming back).

Last int I got was that, they are making a Marine commado unit, and that will be it. Between the CSOR and the Jump Coys, that will be it for Jump capable units.
