No, because we was there last year till july, but new uniforms was introduce in october or somthing like that...Now our troops are wearing new camo....

No, because we was there last year till july, but new uniforms was introduce in october or somthing like that...Now our troops are wearing new camo....

The funniest thing is that we don't have woodland version, actualy theese new uniforms aren't very good, I don't have yet one, but guys who are in Iraq now said that material are bad, because when u laundry it they start to tear, but it's rumor maybe it's not true, I will have one in march or april, then I can bee more objectiv...

That's interesting. I can't say anything about uniforms (fabrics, quality, etc). But The new camo isn't, for me, multipurpose... :roll:

It have some features, like u can't see it in NVG, but i havn't tested it and much more....but like I said I can't be objective while I have one tested...But it is big step forward in Latvian military...new weapons, new uniform it's big step and all in one year, but it will take some years to supply all kinds of forces, but first go infantry:) and of course special operation unit

That's what I though too, but the Swedish AG4 should have a S-P-A marked trigger group, not S-E-F or 0-1-20 as in the pics.

answering question about G3! it was some 8 or 9years ago when latvia bought these weapones from germany! they were bought in one bunch with submachine gun MP5 and machine gun HK21E, from HecklerKoch!

1) i know about going proffesional, yet I've herad rumors, that now it has become a problem to recruit people to the armed forces-busses with advertisments are traveliing through the country, trying to recruit more people to the army, but it's not going optimistically according to the plan.. Is that true? Has Latvia created such an atractive social bennefit system for the soldiers (houses, study bennefits, taxes etc.)+the advertising machine so fast, that the decission to go proffesional was made so quicklly?

2) Armed forces are going on G36 and HK21 as standart issue, however...is that for the proffesional army only,or for them and Zemsarge as well?The proffesional army, afaik is small, consisting of one brigade+some support units (duno,if SUV counts) so the number of G36 shouldn't be huge, I suppose..

3)I've heard good records on SUV. It's not ol'OMEGA, right? Are they becoming separate branch of the armed forces as well?What consist the SUV, if that's not OPSEC (shuldn't be..). No need to ask of their weaponarry, allready knownp-) Though, what transport do they use-landrovers, modified humvies, anything else? Any chance to see them on the mission at the hot spot, A-stan/Helmand for instance?

3)Are you getting Stingers/avengers as well? Any plans for medium range?

4)How's with the air tactical Transport-Spartans, Hercs in the plans,no?

1. Yes it's true thatswe are now professionals, and it's true that we have huge problem with recruting new soldiers, because there is no benefits and you get paid about 600 $, it's including flat and food money, actualy in 1. and 2. batalons all guys are form od times, in my coy everybody have 1-6 missions in background maybe just some 5% are from last constcript duty whats ended in last november..all of these rumors are true:(
2.Yes, 1. infantru batalon already have it in missions, but we have it just jet received and learning it, I think Zemessardze will not receiv them so quikly, Yes we have Brigade, but we have big man power problems...
3. No Omega is police unit...but SUV military, actualy there are not so many to teel, I just don't know, I know they are now in afganistan, they have worlds elite snipers, they drive on humves, and roves too...However when I will sreved my deployment in afganistan, I will go to SUV then I can tell u more...sorry I got to go...later

so many questions!:) but i try to answer!
1) yeah its true that recruitment isnt going as good as its wanted from MOD but theyre trying of course! my personal opinion is that it was litlle bit to fast and we should left draft for some one or two years but thats just a thougt of soldier.
2)yes were going on G36 but not HK21 instead we go for Minimi and i think we left MG3 as GPMG for while. as i know priority is infantry brigade, SOF. i think national guard units(zemesargi) wont get it as fast as regular units, thats for sure.
army is runing its weapones modernization program which includes G36, Minimi, Glock17, underbarelgrenadeluncher AG36, sniper rifle AW, Hecate, and automatic grenadeluncher GMG.
3)as for SUV its definetly not omega becouse omega is counterterorrism unit under ministry of interior. SUV always have been under national armed forces. and its allways have been seperate unit. it consist of counterterror team, combatswimmers(SEAL like team), and ranger team. as for theyre transport as i know its HUMMVe. i dont think you will see them in helmand but somewhere else in a-stan probably;)
second3) i think there were deal with sweden that we buy from them RBS70(not sure) as medium range anti aircraft missles.
4) i only have heard rumors that there is some joint plan with estonia and lithuania to buy some transport planes and use them together.
5)yea theyre still ok:) standing and rusting!
as for armor MOD have started negotiations about Pandur AFW but it could be Patria as well. duno, not my buisness!
6)in fact i dont know any! just MOD.gov.lv sometimes something good in campadazi.mil.lv in fact thats all mybe anvo have something to add!

**** the second guy was my body, i served with him some two years he was number 1 i was number 2 machine gunner! :)
its blackhawk! i cant remember the model but its just platform where you can put in what you need for mission! but it gona be replaced soon! not very good piece of equipment

The new uniforms are interesting. Does it come in a Desert and Woodland version, or just in one All-Terrain version? Got a link to any more photos of it?

AFAIK for now it's all terrain version, what I find no better solution, than ACU. Neither in woodland, nor in the desert. In urban combat-perhaps, but variety of patterns, like marpats would be better. Even though, if I am not mistaken, amrican BDUs are still being used and will be used for Zeemsarge (TA) for some time (or at least put in reserve).

yeah thats true! for now only regular units are going to get new uniforms and equipment, but of course after a while all will be dresed in new ones!
i personaly like new uniform, its really good in desert , mountain terrain and urban areas as well! but not too good in forests of Latvia!
but nice to have something ourselves at last!:)

I've visited the forests of Latvia, and I can say they would make for an interesting fight with any camo pattern you use. (tall pine trees and moss-covered ground) Too beautiful to fight in.
