As part of a plea deal that would let him avoid being labeled a *** offender, a former Marine recruiter was convicted of a lesser false-imprisonment charge Monday stemming from allegations that he groped two females.

Donny Rage, 29, was accused of ******ly assaulting the victims, one of whom was under 18. Rage pleaded no contest in November to a false-imprisonment charge associated with the underage girl, a plea that would have required Rage to register as a *** offender.

Instead Rage withdrew that plea and pleaded no contest to a different false-imprisonment charge related to the other victim, who was 18.

The exchange was part of a plea deal in which Manitowoc County Assistant District Attorney Doug Jones agreed to recommend probation.

According to a criminal complaint, Rage groped the underage female at a Manitowoc recruiting office and later tried to have *** with her after her boyfriend passed out at a party.

The girl told investigators she "was very scared and felt threatened," the complaint said.

The 18-year-old told police she was poked, grabbed and tickled before Rage carried her into his bedroom and assaulted her, the complaint said.

The complaint didn't say whether the two victims were potential Marine recruits.

Rage, who was formerly of Manitowoc and whose address is listed in court documents as being in Kenner, La., was released from custody in lieu of $15,000 signature bond.

When I was a marine DEP my recruiter talked about hooking up with high school girls all the time. I thought he was bull****ing until i found out he tried to get my GFs phone number.

Cancelled my contract (after threatening to report him to the CO) and enlisted in the Army. Been happy ever since.

I have a buddy who got kicked out of recruiter school (after serving for 5 years in the Navy he renewed his contract for another 6 yrs) for less, a lot less. They told him that his situation was not at all what they were looking for in a recruiter and he was sent back to his unit.

I sure hope this guy is punished by the Marines.

any of you guys care to think that maybe there was a plea bargain because the prosecutors did'nt have enough evidence or the case was a bit shaky? you see the plea bargains because the prosecution knows that they have a flimsy case and they don't want to see it go to trial. don't always assume that the story of events portrayed in the newspaper is actual fact.

obviously, the prosecution was not very confident.

Of course. I agree, in the field I work in (Firefighter/Paramedic) I am very aware of how the media can portray things differently than they really are.

I will also say though that plea bargains are sometimes taken to avoid loosing your job, or state/federal licenses, etc. I have seen it.

I guess I will say this- if this guy really did what they say, then he needs a reality check (and punishment- of course). It makes everyone in the profession look bad if it is not taken care of properly. I unfortunately have seen that happen too.

notice how they are using the girl's account of what happened in the newspaper? there is always two sides to a story and the prosecutors felt that the case was not strong enough.

no need to worry about the guy, he is done in the marine corps or the miliary for that matter.

Sometimes that's the reason, other times its because the victims have told the Prosecution that they'd prefer not to testify. In addition, you never know what's going to happen at trial. A certain outcome is often better than running a case, traumatising the victims again (don't care what anyone says, being cross-examined by an angry attorney is always traumatic) and costing the public a lot of money..and then maybe losing, however good the evidence may seem before you launch in.

What the **** is this Recruiter doing at a party with underage kids? Much less trying to bang a young girl whose boyfriend had passed out...
