This is a heads up warning, about a company here in the UK called surplus and adventure.

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.

I ordered 2 very expensive cold weather sleeping bags, and paid by direct transfer the full amount immediatly.

Now, 7 days later, I phoned to see where my bags are, as at the end of this week i'm off on holiday.

There was an ummm, an arrrghh, a maybe, possibly, so I asked had they even beed dispatched to me. "no", as they were "not in stock".

I asked why had they not contacted me, and they said " well you just wait till it arrives don't you?" Actually no, I don't.

My wife rung them back to get a refund, and they were bolshy and rude, even hanging up on her.

Avoid these people. My bags may have only been £100, but, its the principal, I pay, you deliver.

AVOID SURPLUS AND ADVENTURE (uk).:bash:

really sorry to hear it but thanks for the heads up!

Pass the phone number so the whole of MP net can ring the coy askin if they will ship within a week :D ;)

However, do you still need a sleepin bag on short notice? What temp range do you need?

That sucks.

I hope this doesn't deter you from ever buying kit from suppliers via internet / phone. A few years back, 2 days before going away for a course, I was told the temperature was going to be sub-zero in the field at night. So I got straight on the phone to a well known supplier in Melbourne and ordered a Bivvy Bag, and explained to them my situation. In less than 24 hours, it arrived on my doorstep, and was extremely pleased considering they had to send it interstate. (and it saved my a$$. It was so cold, I couldn't even drink in the morning. All our bottles were frozen over. For those living in the UK, this may be normal. But for Aussies, it's not usual!)

My point. I'm sorry that this shop d|cked you around. But they are not all like that, and some suppliers are genuinely good.

Did you email them before ordering and ask if the items were in stock? Most shops don't notify you if it's out of stock, you have to ask them yourself. I didn't have any problems with this company when I ordered some stuff a few years back....

Ryan, cheers for the thought mate, but this, this is what i call a service from an online retailer.

Called a company, checked if they had their -10 /-15 rated bags that were on their web page, and they said yep, got two of them. So I paid over the phone, and yep, parcel force just rung (18:00 hrs) to tell me I got a priority delivery at 9 am tomorrow and can i be in to sign for it !

www.worldofsurplus.com (http://www.worldofsurplus.com)

Now that, thats what I call a proper efficient retailer.

Oh and Steve, surplus and adventure have yet to refund the money onto our joint account...so i wait with baited breath to see if its gonna get nasty.

(Nice snugpak jacket arrived today....ooohhh its a nice one!)

I had similar problems with these guys: http://www.securityandsafetysupply.com/
they were inefficient and rude. I used to work for an online retail store therefore know what it takes and these guys failed me.
Maybe there should also be a sh1t-list/blacklist/caveat emptor retailers sticky to counter the great retailer sticky?

Ryan, we are going on a 'northern lights sight seeing tour', to a place called kiruna, far north of sweden. Told its still bitterly cold, but beings as we are kitted out fairly well it should be all good.

I will give a full run down on how the kit holds up.

I know Kirinua, just ove the border from Narvik. Anyway... Jealous.... enjoy yourself and remember to share the photos! Those kind of experiences you can count on one hand. Excellent stuff.

Sorry to hear you got ****ed:-( I always use www.flecktarn.co.uk (http://www.flecktarn.co.uk), great service. They will even send you a photo of the stuff you buy before they send it. Don't know if they sell sleepingbags though.
