1. You are the chosen ones of the German Army. You will seek combat and train yourselves to endure any manner of test. To you, the battle shall be fulfillment.

2. Cultivate true comradeship, for by the aid of your comrades you will conquer or die.

3. Beware of talking. Be not corruptible. Men act while women chatter. Chatter may bring you to the grave.

4. Be calm and prudent, strong and resolute. Valour and enthusiasm of an offensive spirit will cause you to prevail in the attack.

5. The most precious thing in the presence of the foe is ammunition. He who shoots uselessly, merely to comfort himself, is a man of straw who merits not the title of Parachutist.

6. Never surrender, to you death or victory must be a point of honour.

7. You can triumph only if your weapons are good. See to it that you submit yourself to this law - first my weapon and then myself.

8. You must grasp the full purpose of every enterprise, so that if your leader is killed you can fullfil it.

9. Against an open foe, fight with chivalry, but to a guerilla, extend no quarter.

10. Keep your eyes wide open. Tune yourself to the top most pitch. Be nimble as a greyhound, as tough as leather, as hard as Krupp steel and so you shall be the German warrior incarnate.

"hard as krupp steel"...a nice phrase. probably as old as the first date of krupp producing weapons for the german military.

That phrase was hammered into us during our training.

That is one of the best pieces of advice one could ever listen to, Soldier or not.

This was one of the things our ex SAS guys, religiously preached to us when I was doing CP/PSD stuff, and was on the bulletin board in our villa.

(Although, actually, the Fallschirmjäger were part of the German military, and as such not a Nazi organisation).

Good Job Macs..

I showed these commandments to a hardcore US Marine buddy of mine and he basically said "damn right!"

And I didn't see anything at all that was National Socialist, if anyone is really worried about that. Replace the "hard as Krupp" with something like "Bethlehem" or "US Steel" and change the "German Warrior" to something witha an similar flavor for the US, and I'd say it's right on.

Wasn't that also the "trademark" of the HJ or the "German boy" in general?

Crap! I haven't read the Hitler Jugend oaths or sayings. If they have that one in their oath, we've got to change Number 10 significantly or else just make it the 9 Commandments of the World's Best Warrior.

Why calling crap when you don't know it better. It was definitely an educational tool and a well known common saying for german boys in general. "Be nimble as a greyhound, as tough as leather, as hard as Krupp steel". It was all around at that time. And i don't see why you want to take it out of context now. It's the way it is, you won't change anything. History, you know.

I think Hitler also used those terms to describe the SA.

Nope. we can't change history. However, I was just expressing my disapppointment upon learning that such a find code of conduct (one that could still be used today by a military organization) has been tainted because of its connection to, or historical usage by, the National Socialists.

You're right though. I need to study up on a subject more before making comments that could be construed as more than just "having fun with the subject".
