Sweet video. The HIND is a freaking beast! A ramdomn question: In the movie Red Dawn, the russian attack helicopters that attack the Wolverines in the end, are those Hinds? They look like they might be the early variant of the Hind, but does anyone know exactly what they are? Thanks

I haven't seen it but it is more likely the same US company that provided the modified Aerospatiale Puma in Rambo II and III (and I think in another B movie).

I don't think so, they look just like original Hinds, not like the Pumas in Rambo. My bet is that they actually managed to get a few of the old Hinds somehow for Red Dawn. They could still be mock-ups, but they are definately not the choppers from Rambo.

Yeah the Hinds in Red Dawn are replicas, I just looked it up but they didn't say what kind of copter they used. Much better job imitating hinds than the ones in Rambo tho.
One scary looking helo. I'd hate to see that monster pop up over the horizon.

"Rambo III has two types of helicopters. The Hinds are clearly tweaked Eurocopter SA-330 Pumas. We also see several smaller types. I believe these are Aerospatiale Alouette IIIs fitted with some kind of nose cone and fake wings..."

Yeah I saw that they were pumas on Wiki. The mock-ups of Soviet vehicles in Red Dawn were really top notch though for the time the movie was made.

Not Alouette III but SA-341 Gazelle. The same type used for Blue Thunder (there are some interesting stories of how they could barely fly the modified tiny Gazelle against the agile MD-500)...
Very interesting link I did not know.
So, with this site we have the answer for Red Dawn: not a genuine Hind but a modified S-55 !
:-P
Unbelievable !

Back to the Hinds.
p-)
About the W. Petersen (fair) movie "Air Force One":
The Russian helicopter -a Mil Mi-24 Hind- used in the film is a real Russian machine owned by the US Army. At the time, it was kept at Fort Polk, Louisiana, for OPFOR training.
At least we have a real Hind for entertainment!

Each time I see a Hind, I remember the movie Avalon.
With this chopper, in the begining, looking like a Hind MKwhatever.

What's the name of the band singing? Sounds kind of Ramstein'ish (apart from the female singer).

Polish Mi-24D Hinds. Two of them after major overhaul.
Every chopper can be easily defeated with a MANPADS, don't you read the news?

Despite how they look all helos are fragile and none of them is better armoured than a modern APC. They might have redundant systems and things like two engines, but everything that flys can be made to crash. They have no where near the armour of an A-10 yet A-10s have been brought down by Manpads too, as have AC-130s.
