I have a question
Was the action the same? I mean, from reading the article I got the impression that a spanish patrol saved an american patrol that had been ambushed, and then evacuated the wounded US soldiers. However was it 2 different events? (ambush and rescue 1, and then an attempt to ambush a spanish patrol another)

IT IS THE SAME PATROL THAT YESTERDAY KILLED ANOTHER TWO
Spanish soldiers kill five Iraqis and arrest seven in the second ambush in 24 hours
MADRID . - A Spanish patrol was attacked approximately 11,30 (Spanish hour) two kilometers to the east of Diwaniya, in Iraq, according to the Ministry of Defense, that assures that the attack has been repelled "with hardness" and that five Iraqians are dead, and seven have been taken prisoners, two of them hurt This is the second ambush against those Spanish soldiers in 24 hours and that, apparently, are work also of the same insurgent group.
The Ministry of Defense has added that during the operation a "weapons cache with armament" has been located.
The memers of the Brigade "Plus Ultra" were assaulted by "seven or eight people" with rockets and fusilade and had to be reinforced by a section of the Legion with wheeled armored vehicles (BMR). They has been no losses among the Spanish military.
The five deead Iraqis were "milicianos of the Mahdi" , an army directed by the shiite religious leader Moqtada Sadr, according to sources of the Spanish contingent in Iraq. We have known that since the middle ages, but our damn politicians seemed to have skipped history classes. But wait and see, our troops are eager to engage the enemy, so who knows, perhaps they will go with a bang (I have a cousin in the Legion, and those guys are meaner that a PMSing lumberjack lesbo  )
Score
Spain: 26, Shiite Militia: 0

to bad spains pulling out we need those guys over there :(
woot GJ spain
There are more details in the news... The first ambush happened in an urban area, so only 2 shia militiamen were killed. The second ambush happened in a road, in an unhabited area... so Spanish soldiers struck back with all they had and made run away the Mahdi's militia ambushers. They were so intelligent that try to hide under a bridge. (Maybe because they had a weapons cache there). But Spanish soldiers took positions in the both sides. With no way to run away this time, using loudspeakers, they were ordered to surrender.

Yesterday`s militias casualties has been revised up, as it was confirmed that 7 militias were killed when trying to ambush a spanish patrol. Today there was a new attack against España Base in Diwaniya. The insurgents attacked with rifle fire and proyectile fire¿?(doesnt mention RPG or mortar)but were repelled by sniper fire. 4 Iraqui militiamen were killed and the rest fled (source: www.abc.es). It is curious that the attack was repelled only using snipers, didn`t even used armored vehicles or aditional infantry.
