Was wondering if anyone can tell me about the Ukraine/Kyiv. I'm going there this summer for a month. There isn't too much on the web about it, or books for that matter.

What is there to do? What should I look out for. I speak basic Russian so I should be able to get by.

I know there are a few people here who might know.

Thanks..

I live in Kyiv, so I can basically point you at a few locations. Are you on a business trip or just tourist sightseeing?
If you speak basic Russian, you would be OK, many people speak here basic English, too. :D
The places to see are numerous churches - St.Andrews church, Vladimir's cathedral, Pecherska Lavra, Sofia's cathedral, Vydubichi monastery.
There are also beautiful sightseeing sights in Kyiv, such as the central square called Maidan Nezalezhnosti.
I can write additional information if you are interested.

Sergei,

Privyet.. I will be living with the family of a someone I know in New York. I'm not sure where yet, somewhere in Kiev. The family I'm living with doesn't speak English, just Russian, so it will be a real test for me. Thanks for the places that you've listed, I've just written them down and will try to check them on the web. I seem to remeber a war museum that has two tanks in the front that are painted all different colors. I'm really into museums, especially in foreign countries.

I may post again when I have more info as to where I'm staying etc..

спасибо..

I think that's enough for you for a start. :D

As for the family, try to use the usual language like signs, gestures, people will understand, and I bet they are kind hearted people so they will lend you help in whatever issue you might have.

Going only by the girls from the Ukraine that I have met I would say that it must be the Mother Lode of hot blonde chicks. :)

I have to behave on this trip, so I'm going to see what I can of Kiev, improve my Russian, eat some great Borscht. But yes, I'd have to agree about the quality of Ukrainian women.

Yep, it's spring time and the majority of the girls is wearing short skirts, so beware!
They are not just blondes, I personally like hazel and black hair, and my wife has a light-brown hair.
