Baghdad bomb hits US occupation troops

Monday 26 April 2004, 13:03 Makka Time, 10:03 GMT

A powerful bomb has exploded in Baghdad's northern neighbourhood of Waziriya, destroying four US military vehicles.

No occupation forces spokesman was prepared to comment on casualties after the Monday morning attack, but as many as 12 marines may be dead.

An Iraqi policeman, who refused to give his name, said he saw "three US soldiers wounded or killed in each vehicle".

Heavy black smoke could be seen rising above a chemical storehouse that appears to have been ****y-trapped.

One witness, Imad Hashim, said the bomb went off "when they [US marines] tried to force their way in, there was a huge ball of fire and I was thrown to the ground".

Hashim said he was about 100 metres away from the blast.

Four Humvees were seen burning as US forces closed off the area, residents said they also saw rocket propelled grenades being fired into the Humvees as they passed by.

Najaf raid?

Meanwhile, US occupation forces are set to enter parts of Najaf to kill or capture Iraq's most outspoken anti-occupation Shia cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr.

Shia leaders have warned there will be an explosion of anger among the 15 to 16 million Iraqi Shia if US soldiers enter Najaf.

But Brigadier General Mark Hertling, the deputy commander of the 1st Armoured Division told journalists on Monday: "We're going to drive this guy [Sadr] into the dirt."

"Either he tells his militia to put down their arms, form a political party and fight with ideas not guns, or he's going to find a lot of them killed."

General Shia resistance

Grand Ayat Allah Ali al-Sistani, Iraq's most revered Shia religious leader, has said if US troops enter Najaf or Karbala, they will cross "a red line" - implying general Shia resistance.

The US aims to make limited forays into the Iraqi cities they have besieged, asserting a measure of control without provoking battles.

"We will probably go into the central part of the city," General Hertling said. "Will we interfere in the religious institutions? Absolutely not."

However, Najaf is not a big city and it will be difficult for the US troops with their massive firepower to pursue Sadr and his Mahdi Army militia without damaging the shrine or the vast cemetery.

Btw. what is your estimation about the progress in Iraq, how long will it take before the Occupants are kicked out? 1 Year, 5 Years or the full 11 Years like in Vietnam?

Yea wouldn't you like to see that? Regardless of what you think of Bush, you seem to care very little for the troops who are fighting over there, and are willing to re-enlist and go back..

Agryll, careful my friend. Theres something called OPSEC.

People will beg you to give them the first hand account. Dont.

I think that we definately need to take a close look at this place. A chemical wharehouse, apaprently ****y trapped with explosives. Sounds like to me there was something in there they didnt want us to find.

Enough is enough. We need to storm fallujah and najaf. Kill that Mucktard al Sadr and get Zarqauwi. Weve ****ed around too much lately, trying to negotiate with people that are essentially terrorists. We know the US policy regarding that.

IT WASNT A WELL PLANNED TRAP OR A WMD ATTACK.

What it was is a ****y trap hastily prepared by the enemies in an effort to keep us from getting to whatever was in there. Im led to believe there was in fact a WMD lab there. Between the intelligence, reports directly from Al Qaeda, the finds of WMD in Jordan and Europe...it all adds up.

Unfortunately we may never know.

Q.:What happens when a WMD Lab blows up?

A.:At least a harmful amount os those what was there gets into the Atmosphere. And it is possible to find the smallest chemicaol remains of whatever.

OMG, what will happen when usa320's head implodes one day? :cantbeli:
