Expert in Litvinenko death shot

An American who last weekend alleged on national tele*vision in the US that the Kremlin was involved in the poisoning of a former KGB agent was on Thursday night shot near his Maryland home.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting of Paul Joyal, a former director of security for the Senate intelligence committee and editor of an intelligence newsletter on Russia.

Mr Joyal was an acquaintance of Alexander Litvinenko, the former KGB agent who died in London last year after he was poisoned with polonium-210, a radioactive isotope.

Police would not confirm details of the shooting or of the condition of Mr Joyal. However, a person familiar with the case said he was in critical condition in hospital.

While there were no indications that the shooting was linked to the Litvinenko case, it is unusual for the FBI to get involved in a local shooting incident.

Appearing on NBC news on Sunday, Mr Joyal said he “absolutely” suspected the poisoning of Mr Litvinenko went all the way to the Kremlin. “Did Putin order it? We can’t say that. I would find it hard to believe that this information, whatever it may be, has not filtered its way up to the top,” he said on the network’s Dateline programme.

A person familiar with the situation said NBC had hired bodyguards for some of the journalists involved in the programme. NBC declined to comment.

The Kremlin has strongly denied any suggestions that it was involved in the poisoning of Litvinenko, a fierce critic of the Russian regime. British police are investigating the poisoning of Mr Litvinenko.

Looks like KGB is unstopable. No worries though, MP.net mods will ban them quickly.

Crazy. That's a big set of brass balls to go after a former intelligence man on a another continent for something said on TV.

Check and make sure the bullet isn't uranium.

Russia, you're making it harder and harder for me to defend you every day. This kind of pushes the boundaries of healthy skepticism.

There's something unsettling about concluding that the Russian Federation, a UNSC and G8 member, is putting hits out on people mafia style...it's a conclusion I will avoid as long as I have some plausible alternative to turn to....but this **** isn't helping.

I wouldn't take it seriously, but it sure makes a good news story.

The Long Hand of Moscow - beware! It was bad before, but now i guess every event with persons criticising Russia in any field is described as an act af vengeance from the Kremlin.

1000's of people have claimed on the Western media that the Kremlin is responsible for Litvinenko.

Looks like the "KGB" has a long list to get through

Litvienko was nobody, but he did tried to shake down a few businessmen.

But because of him Russia's international reputation has certainly suffered. He's done far more damage to Russia dead than he did to it alive.

Wow, i recently heard that there will be a film about Litvinenko supposedly called "Russian agent" with supposedly Depp playing the main role. The film will be based on unpuplished book "Sasha's history - life and death of a russian spy".. No doubt - there will be much blood, *** and many russkies and KGB members in ushanka, drinking vodka, playing balalayka and walking domestic bears.
